Another CS-144 install... With a different brace. Got a 124A unit from a 1996 Suburban optional equipment. In stock, more common and cheaper. Used a rod from a 1990's Camero Air pump. Cut the original rear support short and used it to hold the rear support. rest of install is like the one using a modified turbo support brace. Idle voltage is way better - in fact once you use one of these you will never go back to the undersized CS130. 124 -144A makes little difference to idle voltage as the bigger unit makes the difference at idle.

Looks great! I just installed mine this weekend. I think I am going to have to fab a brace like the one you have there. I just have a grade 8 bolt at the top left (looking at the motor) and the stock one at the bottom right. Both straight through. Looks like they hold it on nice and tight now, but after 30,000 miles of vibrations I sure would like that extra support.

Good to know of another source. I think the turbo bracket is longer as it will go one bolt more to the rear.
I have your bracket modified and will be mailing it tomorrow.

The diesel engine vibration amplified by the drive ratio of the alternator breaks things. The 5.7's Olds were famous for breaking alt brackets. This rear support is critical esp. on engines that put the AC compressor load before the alternator.

I need this rod. Can you be more specific on the years and model (generation) for the Camaro Air Pump? Third generation was 1982 to 1992. 4th generation was 1993 to 2002.

Hit a pick a part boneyard today. I needed a passenger side turn signal housing, also the apron between the front bumper and the grill, preferably blue to match. Struck out on the apron as the blue one had a broken grill clip retainer. Saw a rear driver’s side barn door that was blue and very clean, which would be cheaper than repainting the current one with the peeling clear coat. Finally, did find some sort of rod in a ‘94 Camaro that was very close to what we need. It’s about 1/2 inch short. I’ll see if my welder can add to it. Very beefy.

We checked it against the engine/alternator and the rod will need some modification to work. Unfortunately, my go to welder is out of commission. Need someone with a welding torch to bend the engine side to straight and maybe add 1/2" in length.

I re-used part of the OEM rear bracket with the Camaro brace. I cut off the part the interfered with the rear of the bigger alt and drilled a hole for the rod in what was left. See pic.

We reused the OEM bracket as you described. I am not sure I got the right rod. The flat portion at the engine side bends off to the right. It’s about 1/2” off on centers. If that engine side end were bent straight, that might do it and get us the 1/2”. I’ll look at it more closely tonight.

Went back to the boneyard to get that LR barn door. While there, did some more rooting around and found an alternator support bar from a mid-90s Chevy sedan, name I really did not pay attention to. It took some reaming of the holes, but we got a fit.
