I was out checking my property lines this morning and ran over a stick :mad2:(about 3 feet long and about 3 inchs thick). Well, it popped up and did a number on the shifter linkage, under the rubber boot looking thing between the crossmember and where the linkage attaches to the side of the trans.

It works fine to go from gear to gear but will not go into Park. the wire?? seems like it is bent, I can grab it and manually get it to go in Park and it straightens out. Then I can go through all the rest of the gears but not to Park again.

Is there something under that boot that might have bent?

Pics on the way.

nothing but cable under the rubber. from my vantage point it is something in the bracket section causing it to not pop back to park. cable is probable junk. order a new one.

It is cable through the sleeve but under the boot it is a steel shaft. The shaft remains straight under push/pull conditions where i cable will just flop around without a sleeve for support. It appears to me the steel shaft is bent and you should be able to straighten it.

good call woodchuck. i was not aware of that. never checked. just assumed. you know what they say about assumtions.

well, I fixed it today.
Cost me about $140 for the cable assembly etc.

it only comes with the entire cable, trans to column.

I took pics but havent gotten them loaded on the computer yet.

basicly, the rubber boot covers a steel sleeve over the cable for half the distance and a plastic sleeve on the other end that covers the steel sleeve from the other end to keep the cable from folding. the plastic piece is what broke on mine when the stick hit it right next to the bracket.
