Finally! After years of trying I got a 6.X to actually run clean enough to fail emissions! :hihi:

Normally I simply blow out their equipment and get an exemption or run clean enough after adjustments to pass. Yeah, you have to be running somewhat clean to actually officially fail a test. Otherwise the smoke coats the sensor so badly it can't zero after a test. No zero means their equipment problem and maybe an exemption granted due to that.

I know the truck is just messing with me because it blew a 69 :D of 50 allowed.

Propane? who said anything about adding propane to burn clean enough to
Pass? I've never helped 5 friends here do that as it isn't legal here...

In nv they run diesel on dyno wheels to load the engine and ppm test. hummers being full time 4wd can't run on the big drum, so off to DMV every year for them to do a waiver...

I have a diesel propane system ready to go on something once I find time. Actually doing a convertion now for another member here on a 6.0 gasser.

What are they testing for in AZ? we don't have emissions test here but they do check for all the equipment

1 more reason to put up with Michigan winters,, No BS testing in this state since I was under 10 yr old. Mid 70's

Tank of B99 solved the problem. All the way down to a 12. Darn thing is spoiled on B99...
Had to look hard for a place selling B99 at the pump. No more of the 250 gal at once tote cr@p for me.

:rolleyes5: I replace the air filter and inspect the inside of the IP at least every year. This year we just changed the IP sometime ago and didn't have to open it up for the yearly adjustment.

It also got some Biocide after passing just to be sure everything stays very, very "dead" in the fuel system this time on B99. (Bug 99)

What is it about the B99 that makes it burn so much cleaner? Dino fuel at 69 vs 12 for B99 is quite a difference. Was the dino fuel stale or had low cetane?

Do you think the B99 is just that slick that the IP and injectors just operate smoothly and timing and injection is just a tad crisper since all mechanisms are lubed and operate easily. Maybe injectors close faster due to the lube and don't "pee drip" any fuel at end of injection????? Or do you think the B99 just burns more completely and faster so its all vaporized before the emissions sensors? Or do you think the bio has a different film thickness or something that improves injection pressure and thus atomization?

10% less energy and the leftover menthol from the biodiesel process is oxygen just like MTBE in gasoline. It also lights a little later in effect retarding the timing.

So I am in effect turning the fuel down 10%, adding chemical oxygen, and a slight timing retard. All affect smoke. They don't measure NOx so we don't care, but, that goes up with B99.

There is a visible difference in the amount of smoke when I stomp it from a light with B99. A adjustment of fuel and timing and I can smoke B99 just as bad as #2. Except the fuel screw is maxed out on this 'small' 6.2 pump.
