i found a 93 6.5 that is only a year old jasper reman. the guy is going to let me take the ecm, fuel pedal and cable. it also comes with a k&n air filter. this engine starts easy and sound good. I am going to put it in my 95 k3500. the 93 is a manual ip. will i have problems trying to make this work? I think i have a bad ip on my 95 so i dont want to take the chance on putting a bad ip on a good engine. will the 93 ecm run 95 dash instruments? any one done this kinda swap? thanks in advance

So this 93 must have an automatic 4l80E in it if it has a computer-for the trans only. The engine should be mechanical IP with a regular throttle cable right? What trans does your 95 have in it? I think there are a few guys around here that have done the swap.

yes my 95 is auto assuming 4l80e yes the 93 is auto and is mechanical ip. i am going to pull pedal and cable with engine tomorrow. getting engine for 800 runns great only a 1 yr old jasper reman. my 95 is knocking and excessive blowby. like the idea of mechanical pump just want it to run right. so my wife will be happy again

Make sure you get the transmission control module when you pull the engine or you'll have to source another to make yours work. Also while the engine is out it's the best time to pressure wash the engine bay and clean all those grounds while your there. Might even consider repainting the engine bay and repalcing the engine mounts as there is no easier time to get at it, also a good idea to change the front seal on the transmission. Before you remove the hood take a 1/8th inch drill bit and put some tape so you only drill about a quarter inch deep and drill the hood hinges and hood so you only have to insert the bit to align the hood when you go back together. Might as well take your radiaitor and pressure wash it and ac evap so you get the best cooling.

I'm pretty sure the ecm is behind the glove box, also get as much of the ecm to engine/trans wiring harness as you can - that will make the swapout much easier.

have new engine and pulled old one out need to know how to rewire to make mechanical pump work with trans please help

the more i look at this iam starting to think about just swaping parts a reinstalling electric ip. i did not get any of the wiring harness and there is a big difference in years. loosing condifince in my self with this project.

Dont give up...it cant be that bad. You just need to get a IP service manual for a 93. As long as you have the PCM from the 93 to control the tranny. Then alls you need is some wiring diagrams for 93 IP, to feed the fuel solenoid, shutoff solenoid, cold advance, etc.......

Need to PM some of the guys that have made the switch. In reality there should just be a sticky on swap procedures with list of parts needed. That would make a good project much more worth it. Burning Oil seems to have made the swap......and others????

10149599,(92-94) the 6.2 used the block which was also used in early 6.5s. Engines with the #599 blocks used the 23502592 crankshafts.
12552929 use smaller-bore 10mm outer bolts for the main-caps to prevent block cracking. larger 12mm bolts were used in all 6.2 blocks as well as 6.5s with #599.

I think these early 6.5s like the one you got were more prone to cracking because they were the same block used for 6.2s, but bored out and used larger main bolts. The best 6.5s are the late 506s, which also included piston oil sprayers, even though early 97 506s were prone to cracking where the squirters were drilled.

The turbo you got with the 93 block will be a GM3, and the one off your engine is GM4. They work a little different, GM4 would be better and youll have to use a manual wastegate if switching to manual IP. the 93 started with a manual wastegate, the GM4 you can make one or buy one on Heathdiesel.com or Kennedy diesel.

ok i have just about finished my motor swap I had problems with the wiring with the mechanical pump set up so i just put all of my 95 motor sensors, ip and lines along with the gm4 vacum wastegated turbo. i have it all together and fired it up this morning. started up in just a few cranks had some leaks. then got some code35's. advanced timming alittle and ran alot better. from reading other posts i gather that i need to have the computer's timing redone? right. if that is the case the only place i can get that done is the local chevy dealer $$$$$.

now the truck is running a little weak i hope that it is just the computer. it is smoking a lot and colour changes with rpm and load. white and grey black smoke.

any other thing i need to look at?

You can pay someone to do a TDCO learn procedure and time it, or buy yourself the OBD1 to USB cable and the software from Engh Motors, about $200 total and youll be able set the TDCO and see where the IP timing is and adjust yourself. Youll also get all the sensor readouts and can observe engine operation while driving. Its a great tool
