I just found this 96 GMC 2500 4x4 (extended cab long box) at a local car lot. It has 80,000 miles, 3 in. exhaust(no muffler or cat) 3 inch body lift, runs good, drives good. Tires are about 80 to 85 %. interior is nice, the body has no rust(i think its from Texas) but a few small dents. Thats about all i know about it. They want $7600 for it. Is that a decent price??? Im really thinking about buying it and wanted some more input. Thanks................Brian

What do you think its worth? Im gonna try to talk them down, but, whats a fair price??
 
I know its a whole different truck but the people wanted $7500 for my suburban which I thought was high and they took $6500 which I found reasonable. But this truck could be a gem, I dont know.
 
Price is too high, go to KBB et als to get idea of what a individual, not retail price is, Heres part of your play him selling a catless truck is against the law, plus it's one of those "bad 6.5 gasser conversion engines" poor on mpg, low on power, bad Ips, cracked block just waiting to happen, Diesel is at a premium and then make an offer you are comfortable with, walk away but leave him your number for when he wants to sell it at/near your comfort zone but $7500 is too steep, see what it's insurance value when totaled would be, you don't want to be upside down financially in it if it gets in a wreck, see what bank loan value is on it.

I got the NADA values.
LOW Retail Value...........$7200
Clean Retail Value..........$8450
High retail Value............$9375
Now i dont know what to think...................HMMMMMMMMM
 
Those NADA values are a joke. Try to get that in real life. The scumbag tax assesor uses the same book They assesd my 2000 at 10,000. I'm like are you !@#$%^ kidding me ? for 10K I'd deliver the POS to Antartica. The only good thing on this truck is the mileage. 80k is nice otherwise it's a 5K truck. Specially with all the points TD pointed out. I paid 4,000 for my 2000. Plus bodylifts not a great idea in these. They overheat to begin with and cutting the fan shroud and raising center of airflow not helping at all.
 
Check KBB. NADA is always higher. Most trucks are luck to see fair trade value/wholesale these days. With the truck market and the price of diesel, I'd never pay anywhere near that price for that truck. $5k tops. It's nice, but pricey for what it is. Duramax resale value is enough to make me sick these days. I never thought the day would come where I couldn't sell one for $10k (my 03 service truck). It stickered 5 years ago for $40k!!

I know...It's tempting to upgrade my pickup. A year ago you couldn't find one for sale and if you did it was top dollar. Mine 2000 has insured value of 10,000$
Damn wish I fixe that fuel leak.....:)
 
Trucks are low now, expecially diesel engine ones. Do him a "favor" and take it off his hands using the tips TD says. Make a low offer and he'll bite eventually. He knows he is going to have a hard time moving that truck with the way things are.

Get a full history report. If it's really from the lower states, then it's worth much more than something from north of the Mason Dixon line, for sure! We're in the salt belt up here.
 
Yeah TD...U.S. cash is the same as Canadian money these days. For some reason truck sales are still strong around here. I guess being in a farming type area also helps.
 
Hmmm I actually dont think that to bad of a deal. The truck looks clean and in good shape. If you could get them down to $7,500 out the door id think your getting a good deal. But like others have said make sure you get a carfax report first.

Cash conversion wasn't what I meant, what I was referring to was valuation, I remember working in Sask back in 98 (eons ago it seems) dollar still had some value to it, but trucks/cars on lot stickered about 1/3 more then same as US vehicle pricing, even with the exchange rate conversion, (Taxes-tariffs-base cost) I never got a satisfactory explanation why the price delta, "It's just that way here" is what I was told, it's been 10 years are North of the border vehicle prices now on par with US prices?

aaaaah. I see. Prices are still higher her than in the U.S. Many people are still going south to pick up their new ride. I've got 2 uncles that bought new Dodge diesel's this year and still saved about $15,000 per unit.

It's only a matter of time before prices fall out here to remain competitive. Mind you, this is for our Manitoba vehicle market. I don't know how the other Provinces are.
