I kept the evaporator, compressor-barely, and hoses with repair.

I replaced the INOP fan clutch with a Hayden unit and put on a spare 21" Trailblazer plastic fan. We will see how that goes.

The AC lines were missing a seal at the back of the compressor and the high side valve was broken and wrong. I had a valve in stock. This is the only thing that went right. One of the few hose sets that have a replaceable high side valve. (The GMC parts truck hoses were mangled and compressor crank bent.)

I had to replace the missing clutch wire and the clutch connector is broken up on the coil but usable.

Condenser was blasted till fins came off and fins mashed on the inside by PO so it had to be replaced.

New accumulator and VOV orface tube.

When putting in the new VOV on the new condensor I found that it was corroded internally or FUBAR from the factory with a white powder that was screened and built up by the preinstalled orface tube. I wondered why it was a PIA to get out taking 30 min with tweezers and pliers. So back it went.

O-rings would not hold on condenser so back to parts store.

Pressure switch took 3 o-rings before one held.

Finally got system to hold a vacuum.

Pressured it up and watched AC oil start dripping out of the high side compressor port to hose connection. First time I have ever had a system leak after holding a full vacuum overnight.

The truck has the wrong damn compressor. The ports need to be even and this one has the high side recessed. They make a spacer type seal to correct this. So I put that on.

Finally got the system to hold a charge now.

And the blower motor now starts to scream. :mad2: Least I got a spare one on the parts truck.

I am not sure about this bodystyle truck because the Orifice is in the Condensor(That BTW to me is FU, but hey it works) but on the OBS trucks Four Seasons made a repair kit where you could cut the line on the evaporator where the orifice went and compression fitting a whole new one on without pulling the evaportor becaus le me tell ya, I had a few that would not come out. That is why I dislike these systems. I like the Expansion valves better. I think I still have a repair kit somewhere. If I can find it I'll snap a pic.

Thing that sucks is you used to be able to get all kinds of barbed repair fittings and pretty much make your own lines and Frankenstien anything together but that stuff is near impossible to get now.Now you have to go have them made and try to explain to some moron what you want and hope he understands. I got an L8000 now that needs the whole system reinstalled(Has it in the cab, everything else butchered) and the damn truck uses those stupid worthless Ford Quick connects and Ford n longer makes the lines for it. My 87 L8000 uses regular male and female o ringed. Getting lines made a piece of cake.

This may be helpful. It's hard to find capacities. All the chiltons books etc say"refer to qualified personal"

I'm doing a compressor on my Dually right now. Get this, The compressor looks to be only a few years old if that. It works fine but the clutch is shot.
New Clutch=150$
New Compressor(not reman, new)with clutch 179$
How stupid is that ?

I used compressed air to pop the orfice tube out so I could put it the VOV.
BTW the new VOV had orings on it that were to big and impossible the install.
I took the oring off the new orfice tube and another one I had in my assortment. It was still tight but did go in with some oil on it to help.
