The AC compressor is out on the 95 Tahoe.

Where is the best place to find a quality replacement?

I have a compressor here - I haven't gone out to look at it yet but I believe it was off a 1996. Can it be made to work on the 95? What exactly would that entail?

96 is a completely differrent style compressor. And the 95 compressor was only used from mid 93-95. I would only go with a quality ACDELCO or DELPHI unit if it were mine, I've seen way to many remans fail on these as they normally pinch the housing O-ring putting them together.

I had to replace the AC compressor last year. The AC tech I talked to did not reccommend the reman units. He said he'd seen too many of them fail, and they don't have much of a warranty.

Don

Does anybody have the AC or Delphi part number?

I haven't found much under the GM 1134343

Usually searching the GM part number takes me to a link for the AC Deco part number. It did finally - 15-20189

Anything sold as new is better than reman.
Not had luck with dealer AC-Delco / Delphi new units so I don't recommend them over other new units.
There is a difference between R134A systems and R12 systems in regards to the hoses on the back of the compressor. R-12 even converted are level where the newer R134A compressors have offset ports and hoses. Make sure the new compressor suction and discharge port height match your old compressor. Your year should keep this headache from you, but, parts jobbers and suppliers stock one part fits all and sometimes it doesn't...

Not quite sure what you mean here.

Matching up wouldn't mean much as this is the 4th compressor on the Tahoe. No way of knowing If they were matched up along the way

All of the replacement compressors from GM now use the new style offset height ports. GM includes a special extra thick sealing washer to make up for the differrence so they only have to offer one compressor instead of 2. And there were some stock units that had the new style offset ones with R-12, it was simply a mid year compressor change. Check with AUTOZONE as they can also order genuine DELPHI units, I use MARKS AIR which is a local company to me(and he has a 99 DMAX BURB that I used for reference while building mine).
