My light comes on time to time also it activates at lower speeds. I hate when they come on when going slow under 25 and can't stop easy....

I am just wondering if I get rid of this will it be better with it gone? It is just a pita to deal with.

I was thinking of just getting rid of the box and run the lines to the master cylinder.

Also anyone do this?

thanks

Is this the 4 wheel anti lock? If so just unplug the large connector(8 or 9 wire) and the ABS is disabled. No ABS light on the dash either.

My pickup's ABS has been disabled for a good bit. It does stop better with the ABS disabled.

IMO, you got more Control over it without ABS, just know how to Drive without it, and when you gotta Jam on the Brakes, know you're gonna Slide and be Ready to Correct it.

I personally like mine. And also your proportioning valve for the brakes is built into the ABS unit. Find out what the code is for it and go from there.

I pulled codes when mine first crapped out. Helms Manual recommendation = "Replace ABS Unit."

I yanked the fuse and lived with the ABS idiot light for a number of years.

Finally found a "good" ebay unit for cheap. Installed it. No codes, but no ABS and the dash light was still on. Pulled the fuse again, and pulled the ABS bulb on the dash.

Problem permanently fixed.....

I would not remove the box and mess with re-doing the lines.

correct me if I'm off, but doesn't the ABS box just control the ABS itself. you still have the regular proportioning valve in there?

I never thought about the back brakes not having abs. I am going to garage to check out the truck now.

It may just be a wheel speed sensor. Id keep the abs working if you could. The abs light is on in my jimmy but no codes.

My ABS light has been on for about 8 years now. And the ABS brake systems don't work either. Code tells me it's the right front wheel sensor. I just live with the light on. I've been driving for 40 years, 99% of the time with no ABS brakes. I feel I can live without them. The truck stops just fine. There's been a few threads about how useless a system it is, as well. I hesitate to unplug the system, because if there was ever an accident, and the insurance company saw that, they may not cover.

Just my $.02.

I fully plan on yanking mine in the Suburban. POS system.

Once I do it I will try and post pics... It has been too dang cold to mess with it in the last month!

From my understanding there is no proportioning valve in the ABS box.

Ic I did notice I have 3 lines leaving the unit though. Keep us updated if you could...

Bad system. I blew a rear brake line, and it was raining. Hit the brakes, ABS did its stupid pulse thing, but with no rear brakes the pedal did NOTHING. I rear-ended my buddies box truck doing 25mph with little to no braking, even though my foot was to the floor.

Truck stopped fine before abs fought me.

Unplug that thing. Its dangerous.

Is it just these ABS systems you guys hate or is it all ABS? Today I was in my dads 97 lesabre going a little fast down a country road and came up to a hard to see stop sign. There was hard packed snow on the road and some open dirt. It seemed like to took a long time to stop. You could hear the ABS working.

Different diameter tires will cause the light. Also a bad VSSB could, thats an easy junk yard find, just make sure you match the same code on the box when getting a new one.
Do you have the same gear ratio's in the diff's as factory?

I don't know how it works on a 95 but I unplugged the rear ABS on my 91 'Burb because it would not stop straight and the light was always on.... un plugged it and it stopped straight ........ it also disabled the rear brakes ....... every time I crawled under it to adjust the rears they had the right adjustment...... every time I pulled the drums off the rear brakes looked fine ...... I went 5 years and never replaced the shoes ................ had to change the pads about every 10,000 miles....

I do have different tires on this. I am not sure why this would mess this up but I learn something new every day.
vss works well from what I can see. No skip in the speed. Yes the gears are 373. the code matches this.

Very interesting. I do know my front brakes are wearing to fast. I guess I like to stop to fast.

When I said different diameter I meant different size on fronts than on the rear.

When I installed 3.42 gears I pulled a bunch of VSSB's from the junk yard, keeped pluging in new ones until I found one that turned the light off and read correct speed on the speedo acording to my GPS.

When you have different size tires the ABS computer sees the wheels moving at different speeds and it thinks some sliding is taking place. This shouldnt mess anything up, it would just run the ABS every time you hit the brake.
