A team turbo install advice

I installed the Ateam turbo today. Followed their directions for start up. I have not installed the Kojo tuned ECM yet. I did the new turbo start up with the stock ECM. After driving around slowly, the DTC P1656 "popped". I assume once I install the Kojo ECM that DTC will no longer show up, and boost will be produced. Since the wastegate solenoid is no longer there, I would just tape off the plug and leave it be, or is there something else I need to do?

They might delete that code with the KOJO tune. I have the Ateam and a Heath tune and I just keep the wastegate solenoid plugged in and I don't get any codes. With the stock tune it seems to take more throttle to get the boost to come up, but you should be getting boost.

This is probably elementary to some, and I should have gathered more knowledge before I acquired these items. So, maybe somebody can give me the education I need. Turbo is installed (A team), ECM is not...yet. From my understanding, with these items, there is a process to installing both (you just don't plug in the new ECM and go). Also, the vacuum pump, solenoid, and lines are no longer needed. I do not know if the solenoid needs to be left plugged in. From the vendors I bought these items, I got no instructions on how to make these products compatible with the truck. In other words, what stock systems stay, go, and/or modified. Many people have done this modification in the past. It should be a cookie cutter process, but I can't seem to get a straight answer.

It is definitely time to get a new tune. KOJO will correct that code and mention it anyway when going over details of the behaviors that you want.

Keeping the old tune will work, but will also keep the system out of balance and waste the turbo's potential and your fuel. The ATT's characteristics (amount of fuel and injection timing at different loads) are different than other turbos and the correct tune (from KOJO whom got it from ATT) will bring the system in balance.

If you already have an ECM with KOJO's tune, go ahead and swap it out :)

In terms of simply swapping out the ECM's, Yes, it is that easy. Just take your time and do not force the connectors. Also, KOJO's recent instructions call for having a warm engine (above 180F *AFTER* completing the swap).

Toward the vacuum system, I simply removed the vacuum pump (actually it had just died, so I had an excuse) and left the other parts alone. I also got a new tune that allowed for the vacuum delete at the same time so I never got the P1656.

Also, reminder that removing the vacuum pump calls for a different size belt (IIRC one inch shorter). Best to search a bit for your year truck to see what length others used. Another way to go is buy several belts, install until one fits well, and return the rest.

Belt off 1993 6.5 may work. Leave the solenoid plugged in as missing things trip codes used or not. Your tune may be different in this regard.

I plugged the boost solenoid back in. Cleared the codes. Truck ran just fine. Next, I swapped out ECMS. I have the KOJO tune (so I'm told) trough Leroy Diesel. I followed KOJO's instructions to the letter for installing their tuned ECM. Now the truck will not start. Why!? Anybody know?

Have you contacted the vendor, if so what was their response?
On my 99 it would code w/boost solenoid disconnected and the timing could not be set.
If I remember right the vats controller is incorporated into the variable steering sensor too, there were some issues w/vats that required it to be disabled in order for vehicle to be started, may or may not apply..
