Good day Guys (and girls )

My BLAZER is back on the road. I still have to fix the hard start/rough idle at cold or after she sits for a while,
but other than that, she is OK.

Not mechanical but for comfort, I need to fix air conditioning.

There's a leak somewhere I can't find. I changed several seals, valves, but still leaky. I have A/C lasting for less than 2 days.

We have injected fluorine inside the circuit, but the UV light doesn't show any leak.

I still have to pull the grille and check the front AC Condenser, and I'm afraid I will have to fight with the evaporator in the dash.

2 questions :

- Does any of you have an exploded view of a 1994 BLAZER or truck dashboard to help in understanding how to part out the dash without distroying it.

I have heard it is a PITA.. :mad2:

- Do you know the parts # for the A/C hoses?, the one going to drier/compressor/condenser, and the lower one from drier to condenser?

Thank you for your help.

We drilled the rivets out of the dash assembly under the cluster so we did not have to drop the steering column.

Can you borrow, rent, buy, build, or steal a freon sniffer? This is the best tool for this kind of job.

The high side valve sees all the debris from the compressor and usually leaks after you touch it. The high heat doesn't help the high side valve seals as this is the hottest part of the AC system. Unless required I don't touch the high side valve. And then I make sure I have a replacement IN STOCK! Can you reconnect the high side without too much frost bite to recover the freon has been asked. I have seen the high side valve un-thread with the plastic cap and instant discharge of the system... We never did find the cap and valve. Hear a hiss and turn it the other way! We thought it was just the valve leaking and were going to recover the system.

Hoses leak at the crimps. You can sometimes feel the cool breeze with a hand by the hoses.
The diesel hoses off the compressor are getting scarce and it is best to rebuild your hose set. Call around to AC shops to find one that rebuilds hoses.

The condensers leak between the liquid line connector (orface tube) and the condenser itself where there is a weird square part in the line.
Compressors are famous for the outer body o-rings leaking.
The low side switch also leaks.

Do you see any oil build up on parts?

My guesses would be high side service port valve, compressor o-rings for the body, old hoses, low side switch. Dye takes awhile to show on hose crimps I find. The evaporator drain is where you look for dye if the evaporator is leaking.

where's the evaporator drain? Driver or passenger side. I found some dye on the inner fender, close firewall, driver side, when looking from under the blazer. It seems to come from "somewhere" between fender and firewall...

What do you think of the sealant?

I know next to nothing about AC but was told the sealant will wreck your whole system if any air gets in during servicing.

Sealant is helpless at 250-400 PSI that the system can see. It can gum things up and if it plugs up the oil hole in the accumulator the oil will get trapped in it and your compressor locks up from no oil.

You have a right hand drive? Is the AC box on the same side as the steering wheel? We have left hand drive so things can be different. There are no AC parts on our driver side till later years. (compressor moved to that side.)

Connections to the evaporator, low side switch, accumulator (silver round can that has the low side switch), and liquid line is what you need to check. The drain is below the heater hoses and really close to them. Reach under the heater hoses and see if a white paper towel gets dye on it from the drain. The drain can have a 90 degree elbow on it pointed down or it can be missing.

OK, I will use with caution

drain is on pass side

:???: where is this dye coming from? I have to look more closer.
I have seen it coming along inner fender driver side, dripping on the frame at the rear of the control arms :skep:

The only way I can think of dye being on the driver side fender is if it is leaking from the condenser and draining back along that side or the fan is slinging it around from the condenser. Otherwise something else is leaking that has dye in it? Coolant?
