I was in Evansville, IN this past week and talking to a the A/C Delco parts dealer I've been using for years. I asked him why everyone was wearing a NAPA T- Shirt. He said they cancelled their contract with A/C Delco because Delco was trying to sell out and that current contracts would not be honored by the new/potential buyer. He then said that AutoZone is the buyer as of right now. Rumor? Anybody heard about this news?

Maybe this is a good thing if the AC Delco parts and filters will be more available.

Uh oh, this may be the wrong forum for this... Mods, feel free to move if it is.

Well there goes part quallity. AC Delco always had good stuff too. It'd be a shame to see them getting sold off(assuming this is true), especially to a company like autozone who is more interested in price. Gotta feel bad for the vendors too that there just being dropped like that.

This is interesting.

This will also be interesting if AC Delco lands into AZ.. Already now, folks (non-enthusiasts) buy the cheapest thing they can get their hands on, and I can't help but think AC Delco is not the cheapest.. So how would that play into the fate of AC Delco ultimately?

That is, if this is all 'for real'.

Well since AC Delco hasn't been much into made in USA or North America for years; I doubt much change better or worse with the name change on outside of the box which came at a premium that did not guarantee the quality one had hoped they were getting when paying the premium of an AC Delco packaged part. I hate to see a "name brand" go away but that train really has left the station long ago.

Advanced sells alot of stuff with the ac-delco name on it. Like TD said, it doesn't mean anything anymore. Delphi has been GM's parts supplier for years and I don't even know if they are anymore. I've picked up plenty of parts from GM in the last few years that said made in china. Disgusting.

This may be true, but many of the AC Delco branded parts I have used (and I'm sure others can attest to this) have been pretty good as far as quality goes. I trust the AC Delco name. Do I agree that its okay to be made over-sea's? Not one bit, but unless hundreds of thousands of us banded together and refused to buy AC Delco parts because they are made over-sea's that isn't going to change.

I guess I'm just annoyed that yet another company(whom I trust) seems to be getting sold off to someone else.

I know it...it's depressing. 20 yrs ago Chevy parts were cheap, abundant and quality. Now they are expensive, crap and scarce. Never thought I'd see that.

I have had nothing but good luck with AC Delco stuff. It is all I use now. I do not buy the lower quality jobber crap, just because I do not trust it.

Hopefully, this guy just switched to NAPA for the bigger profit margins, and nothing else.

I've always used AC Delco parts myself, and for quite some time now at least 8 or 10 years finding AC Delco parts were tough to come by. It wasn't until I found this parts store that I could actually get the stuff reliably. That was in Indiana, now that I am here in WV the only delco parts are common oil filters like PF47s etc. I was actually calling back to Indiana to get the Delco stuff then picking them up on my next trip there. But then this happened. Anyways, Baldwin is now the oil filter of choice and I have been told that they are good filters.

I hope this is not gonna happen, or if it does that AZ starts carrying the Delco line and NOT rebadged chinese parts. Of course there aren't any AutoZones in Morgantown either....bummer. :nonod:
