Hey folks, So I am on my forth fan switch None have lasted more than two weeks. Last time I replaced the resistor checked the connectors and lubricated the fan bearing. The result...I got one week out of the last one. Never a blown fuse ... all grounds routed to the negative battery. When connected directly to a battery the fan ran great.
I have to have a fan.
Any thoughts about why the switch dies so fast?
Any thoughts on rigging my own switch...would I have to wire in the resistor to do so?

sounds to me like the fan is drawing to much current ie dieing a slow death. you could rig up your own switch but without the resistors it will only be on high speed

Check the HVAC connector behind the glovebox. It also burns up with a high draw motor. This may be your issue rather than bad switches. Blower motors are famous for shorting and drawing too much current while still running.

Or it could simply be that the famous HVAC wiring plug simply has a poor connection. I pulled my plug apart over a year ago now, cleaned teh terminals and added in an extra ground wire after the plug and it's still working good. GM undersized the electrical in these trucks pretty badly IMO.
