"Mid States Auto Sales is presenting in a NO RESERVE AUCTION this 1998 Chevy Suburban 2500 4X4 Diesel. The 6.5L engine does have problems. The high pressure pump is going out. Black Smoke blows out the exhaust with hard acceleration. Once you get to cruising speeds the power comes and goes, do to the lack of pressure."

it shows pictures underhood, and it has the SSdiesel PMDkit, and some sort of aftermarket air filter.

I am assuming the PMD is going bad, correct? or the way they describe it, it almost sounds like vac pump and wastegate issues?

IDK, what do you guys think?

if you guys promise to no touchy, i let you see the link!

just kidding, I trust you guys: it is on e-bay, down at wichita. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320688870200&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I just think they dont know anything about it.. Prolly just a bad wastegate actuator.. The power comes and goes part might be sketchy. Sounds like they are condemning the I/P. Prolly also the PMD.

Sounds "Normal" to me. Mine blow black smoke on hard acceleration...
X2 on possible WG issues. Likely lift pump is INOP...

everyone is free to bid on it, it was at 1500 or so, now it is at 2300, a little past my price range. I was bargain shopping!

I quoted the following out of the e-bay description....."The engine and transmission are a Jasper rebuild turbo charged replaced approximately 40,000 miles ago at a cost of installed $12,000. The transmission is leaking out the front oil seal and the transmission shop who has done all of my work says it would take at most $600 to fixt it."

Is it just me, or does this sound like the guy got hosed on the deal??? 12 grand for a new engine and trans, installed ??? Now the "almost new" trans is leaking and they want to charge him another $600 to fix the leak..... No wonder we mechanics have a lousy name now-a-days.

no kidding. that poor dude is getting hosed! it is like that everywhere though, a few screw shops, then the good ol boy shop where it may take some time, but they will get it done for not too much, and do it right. or in our area, the ones that do it right, and know they do it right, and charge accordingly!

paveltolz, thank you very much for that link. I had seen that thing on earlier, so i think they bid it back, and are trying again. but I do distinctly remeber that one as being something I wanted to buy, as it allready has rust, and has been in a wreck, so I can keep my rust and wreck free 94 suburban all pretty and clean in the shop during the rust season, and drive this thing without a care in the world.

My truck pulled to the right and no reputable shop or self employed "front end specialists" could sort it out. Replaced all the ball joints and everything between the tie rod ends on both sides to no avail. One shop says the "knock outs" have to be removed and then another one says the knock outs are already gone. Who the heck knows, I sure didn't/don't. Moved out here and a off road shop recommends a local "shade tree" who points out the front wheels aren't setting in the wells evenly. Sure enough the right side is back an inch. He puts it on the machine and pulls cross member where the lower control arms attach and now I have to fight muscle memory to keep from driving off the left side of the road.

Happy to help. I figure you're adventurous enough that you could sort out that tranny issue with the help of the good folks here and for less than $600

Dear robertborneman,

I have listed it again because it did not bring the $2900 reserve which is what I can part it out for. The engine is worth that. The transmission is using about a quart in 40 miles but the clutches are slipping. It surely will quit working shortly. The rust has been patched with metal once and would probaly need to be again. The moon roof was professionally installed and does not leak. I can store it for free, but why would you want to and for how long? The truck is in Indpls, so you can figure distance to I 80.

part of the conversation going on right now with the guy with the 2wd one paveltolz provided the link on. I have just told him about teds optimizers for 1600. he may get mad that I am essentially trying to tell him that he needs to learn what the real value is on a original 6.5L is in fact less than 1600 bucks! :) He said he wont pull his valuable engine, so I offered to do so! anything I can do to get that so called gem out of the engine bay, the happier I will be. :D
