95 Dodge V10 no oil pressure

I recently did a v10 motor swap,used . Put all new gaskets and seals on it,and timing chain. 1000 miles later it lost all oil pressure all of a sudden. I checked the pressure regulator and changed the oil and filter,and primed the motor through the oil sending unit hole with a home made primer. Still no oil pressure. The oil and filter have aluminum grindings. The oil pump is in the timing cover and is no longer available from Chrysler, and the gears are national backorder. I cleaned the pickup screen before I put the motor together .
 
Well its up and running ,with a used timing cover,and new pump gears,and regulator. I had one lock washer behind the spring,and it made 100 psi oil pressure. I put it back to stock around 80 psi max. I am still worried though because the motor seems to be making aluminum dirt. Hopefully its left over from the old pump.
 
Ummm... That doesn't sound good for the bearings. If oil pressure is lost even for a minute (especially at high rpm) the rod bearings are first to go followed by the mains.
 
He drove a couple miles with no oil pressure. It runs fine now with no noises. I told him to run it and see what happens.
 
Not sure if this could be related or not but a friend of mine just bought a 90's Chevy with the 454. It has very low oil pressure when it's warmed up. He installed a new high flow oil pump and its still really low. He thinks his may be the cam bearing.
 
Definitely sounds like worn bearings Jared. Could be cam, main or rod. He'll have to remove and mic them all, then have it machined. Basically an R&R, or he'll have to swap in a new engine.
 
Said he checked the main bearings and said they were good. Not sure how you could check them with out removing them like you said (probably not possible). He likes to sound like he knows everything. Not sure how good of a mechanic he is but he's not afraid to tackle a project.
 
Well he can check the mains and rods by dropping the pan and using plastigage but the cam bearings are checked only by teardown.
