So after 16 years, 108k miles, god only knows how many starts, etc my ignition switch is shot. Key operates just fine, but it does not always power up the ECM or trans. It will however always crank. Sometimes the glows come on sometimes not. Sometimes it will start and die. Looking in the GM book I need to change the switch down on the column not the key tumbler itself. Am I correct or does both of them need to go?

Great thanks guys. I guess yall know what I am doing this weekend now. ( well at least on sat morning, if all goes well)

Sorry for the confusion........ Changing the switch wasn't that bad. The switch was toast no doubt.....
