Where do I check the fluid on my 94 3500 transfer case?

It is different than the transfer cases in my other vehicles. It has a plate on top like where you would mount a PTO.

The the plug that looked to be the check plug seemed to be to low on the case. That filled to level the case would only be filled about 1/4 full.
Does this transfer case fill with the transmission?
What oil would it use? Trans Fluid or something else?

The plugs that appear to be for filling and draining are 3/8 square just like the rear end plug.

Should be 2 plugs. 1 low and the other higher up on the case.
And yes they can look like a plug thats in your rear diff.
ATF is what you put in it.

I was confused because the fill plug on this transfercase is so much lower than the fill plugs on all of my others.
Now all I have to do is figure out how to get it out. Seems to be rather stuck. I'll have to keep hitting it with PB, Knocker loose and everything else. It's probably especially bad now with the amluminum transfer case and steel plug. Which is why I always use teflon tape and pipe dope on my plugs. They seal and they come back out.

Its prob turned in too tight, these plugs are tapered,Its interference fit, penetrating fluid wont get in the treads.
On a inside or outside square I use a 3/8 impact socket extension for best grip, they'll fit either way.

We are able to stick my 3/8 long handle ratchet directly in the hole. But we can see the handle flex with no movement.
Is there anyplace else to check level?
We do not have a heated shed at the moment & I do not want to tear up the transfer case trying to get the plug out. I want to kick somebody every time I come across a stuck plug that has no teflon tape on it.
I've had some bad experiances taking the threads out of the aluminum along with the plug if I get rough. When it warms up I will get er done. Stuff just never goes as well in the cold.
Any further suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

May also be cross threaded. Had a jiffy lube do that on my Toyota's rear diff. Never was able to get the fill plug out. Made changing the hog head and refilling fun.

Do the trans and transfer case share oil?

Funny you ask,

I have a 94 K3500 4wd myself. There are two plugs and yes they are fairly close together. The upper one is in fact the fill plug and you dont want to overfill them either. You have a BW4410 / 3710 Transfercase.

I had to use ALOT of force the first time to get the plugs out the first time too.
