Hi gang, new to the forum so I will tell yo about my truck. It is a 94 3/4 tonHD extended cab 4wd, 6.5TD 5 speed, F code engine. I bought it about 3 months ago. Since I got it I installed a K/N filter in the stock air box and replaced the stock muffler wth straight 3" all the way back, also installed fuel pressure and boost gauges. That's when I found out my lift pump is junk. I just ordered a new Walbro pump and am looking forward to getting it put on. Truck has 239,000 miles on it and seems to run pretty good since theexhaust and filter work, sounds like it should run much better with the new lift pump. I also have an aftermarket PMD and the parts to relocate it behind the bumper but haven't done that yet. The next issue I want to address is the way it dumps boost (like it is supposed to) just when it starts building good pressure. It will build to about 13psi at around 2300rpm then dumps back to 5 or 6psi. Chips and boost controllers are not cheap and I have a limited budget. Any recomendations to solve this issiue would be greatly appreciated. I have heard that many people are running 15psi+, how much is safe without major mods. Seems like it could build up th 20psi by 3000rpm but don't know what the best way would be. Glad to be a part of the forum and look forward to talking to you. PhattDaddy94HD

You can build 20psi at 1800 rpm with the stock/small turbo. I like my buddy 6 banger tuning, he is affordable but he only sells them on ebay although he is a member here. Don't run more than 15psi on a stock turbo.

Hey dude, glad you made it to the site and registered. As you'll see this is the best 6.5 web site around.

Fill out your signature when you get time. Got any pictures of the truck?

Welcome to TTS. Fill out your sig to make it easier for all of us to know what you have at a glance. There is alot of good info in the 6.5 sections, so feel free to read up and ask if you have any questions as we welcome them.

It is possible you need to look at the vac system for the turbo wastegate for leaks, weak pump, bad solenoid, or leaking actuator. This could let the WG blow open. Also if your IAT's are getting high the computer cuts fuel.

You really want to stay around 14 PSI max on the factory turbo. Any more boost and you are overspeeding the turbo making more heat than boost. Bigger turbos can generate more boost without the excessive intake air temps and drive pressure in the exhaust. You can burn more fuel with cold air at 20 PSI than 350 degree air at 20 PSI because the cold air is denser.

You can put a turbo master from heath diesel for about $100. It eliminates all of the vacuum crap and makes the setup mechanical with a manual boost set pressure. Easy to install and bill heath will talk you through completely.
