Help please as I have a 1500 '94 6.5 NA and I want to install engine on a 3500 '93 6.5 TD with a mechanical pump; reason? the 94 was on an accident ( my son) and the '93 3500 bought with a busted engine, so the questin is: is the 94 6.5 NA block same as the 93 6.5 TD and can I just change the engines and mainatin the mechanical pump and the turbo on the '93 or I am asking for problems?
Than you all for the help in advance....

Should be an easy swap, the engines are identical, just swap manifolds and IP.

Going backwards is easy. it's going forward that can be tricky with accesories , trans etc. Should be no prob. Use every thing off the 93 that you can.

Thank you Guys, Now I will end up with a great truck, My 94 has 450,000 KM ( 270,000 miles) and very strong, Did the head gaskets about 100 miles back and all solid and clean inside, Always use Rotella T 15/40 since new. The 93 dually bought with 100K miles on it and not a scratch on the paint and body excellent shape, so very lucky, love my 6.5 other than having to have a spare PMD at all times but now with a mechanical pump not a problem...thanks again for the feed back...

The SES light will prolly stay on for ever but that is no big deal. Just take the bulb out.

Definitely use all the 1993's accessories. IIRC, the 93 will have a transmission controller if you have an auto trans. You should have no problems. Enjoy!

If you use the '93 ip, wiring and accessories it will be easy to swap out. IIRC the balancer on the '94 is a little different & the timing cover possibly for the crank position sensor, but the '93 dosen't use that so leave it unhooked. Will work fine with no SES if you wire it back like the '93.

You have 2 options, keep it n/a or put the turbo on, if you put the turbo on, won't he have to watch the boost level due to the higher compression?

Thank you all for the info, now is time to start taking apart, I shall post a picture of the "black Beauty" when is running. Again, thank you for the info. Cisco

Compression is the same between the two, no problem with the turbo. Just swap manifolds,IP and turbo over, The RPM sensor is on the rear of the engine on the 93 behind the fuel filter if its an auto, you'll need that. Swap the coolant crossover or atleast the temp switch from the 93.

That should be all you need, all front accessories are the same except harmonic balancer/crank timing gear as mentioned, balancer must match crank gear used, 93 older used one balancer/crank gear, 94up used a shorter balancer because of the reluctor ring(crankshaft position senser) added to the crank gear.

Pretty sure they are both the same, around 21.5:1. The AMG engines are the same compression N/A and turbo, except for the 18:1 sold to Penisular. Check service manual, if the N/A's were higher, the compression test specs will be higher.

The 6.2 were around the same compression also, but didn't have as heavy duty of a piston for a turbo like the 6.5.
