Can i remove the block vent from the intake? I know its illegal but so was turning up the IP screw, and chipping my cummins!!! any how, can I install a small clamp on filter to keep dirt out and just let it vent off to the side somewhere or will it hurt anything? whats your thoughts?

The block vent is called the CDR valve. Why do you think you need to remove it? I wouldn't reccomend removing it. The cdr valve regulates the vacume going to the crankcase. Without it the vapor has to push it's own way out, pressurizing the crankcase and possibly blowing all the seals out. Not a good thing.

CDR helps stop oil leaks as air is leaking in not oil leaking out. Your turbo and intake is dirty already so no gain by keeping it clean. Some minimal MPG gain by burning the crankcase oil...

You can, but its not a bad thing to keep. Some people draft it. Maybe at highway speeds it would create a suction anyway if you run a tube down under the truck. What was already said is true, the negative pressure helps keep the crankcase from leaking oil.

I dont wanna remove the actual CDR, I wanna remove it from the intake...just run the vent down to the side and keep the hot air from the block out of the intake....Ive been fighting a heat issue and I got my turbo waste gate broke lose enough i got it open, and didnt have the intake all plumbed in yet(actual wasnt even on truck) and the thing ran cool as could be...barely got it to 205 degrees reallllly trying so im wondering if between the filter and that CDR venting into the intake and my turbo waste gate im making to much heat....Saving my pennies to buy an ATT turbo, unless i find a good deal on a used GMx turbo....

If you're going to run a line from the CDR to open atmosphere, you might as well ditch the CDR valve completely as you have negated it's function anyways...

But it makes a good elbow :)

If you had that rectangular air filter, it may have been restrictive enough to cause your turbo to transfer more heat to the intake air. Would ditch that immediately.

And if there is the plastic ducting in the fender pull it out.

Ok, ill leave the CDR in intake.... The air box is the first thing to ditch after the ATT turbo gets bought....Not sure how i wanna do that yet(build my own or buy a setup)....How do you get that duct out of the fender? I cant get it out of my 94, i removed the bolt in the side(well plastic thingy) and have tugged and it wont move, so I decided not to even mess with it in my 93...Can I swiss cheese the box up(before the filter) and then install a K&N filter if its offered? I know a K47 air box is best, but I havent seen any on ebay or craigslist around here...

You said the right thing:

k47, just wait for one to show up.

A few others have mentioned a used parts web site/locater they've had good luck with. Maybe one will chime in with the name...

If you want to keep the intake clean, the provent seems to get good reviews.

no rectangle filter will do, the cone offers like 3 times as much surface area, and its needed. I would wait until you find the K47 airbox or build your own.

This is where I got my K47 air box from (www . car-part . com) iirc delivered for about 70 bucs. The amsoil nano blue filter from our very own forum member the OilGeek

Edit> I just changed out my CDR valve, 48 bucs new at local napa parts store. Don't think there was anything wrong with my old one, just looked factory OEM & I am now rolling up to 208K.

Installed my old CDR valve on on my neighbors 91 6.2 that was using a qt of oil every 100 miles. His oil consumption has dropped dramatically after, he has 280K on his rig...them things can wear out.

AFAIK The CDR gets its vacuum from the intake path, so removing it from the intake eliminates its purpose, venting the engine, and creating a slight vacuum which helps seals, leaks, and possibly oil foaming too.

Ok...What about the setup ive seen on SS diesel supplys website? its a round cone filter...I think heath offers it to, cant remember..... If thats all that needed i can build that....Or search for a K47 air box...How will I know a vehicle is equipted with it if I find a truck being junked without going and looking at it....What truck and such got this box? all or just some? Ive thought about changing my CDR valve, but im not sure if its bad...truck doesnt use but just a tad little of oil....

OH boy I might have gotten lucky!! closest place is 10 miles away and it says they want $40 for it!! i emailed them cause their closed right now!! Hopefully when they open they will email me back and Ill be running up their monday to maybe get it!!!!!(it is the K47 air box!!)
