702 Cu In V12 GMC

Yep it was a GMC thing. They had the 305 V6 (half of the V12 physically) in the light trucks for a few years. I'd like to tinker with at least the V6. Pretty rare indeed. There is videos of both on yootoob.

Somewhere I have an old service book that has some specs on that engine. It must be boxed up as I couldn't find it in the house.

That would be freaking sweet. 600ftlb at 1600 would make that thing a towing monster (if you could keep 12 cylinders cool). One of those GMC only rigs like our 478 Toro Flow Diesel in a 66 6500.

Caterpillar also used these in dozers back I think in the 60's when the buyer had to have a gas engine. Like in the great white north, or it had to run on LP gas. A few were also found on irrigation pumps natural gas powered. Its the same concept as the Detroit Diesels, to get a bigger engine bolt two together.

The blurb I read on them said they did not have cooling issues, GM went all out science-ing out the cooling system. One feature I remember, It had was a high bypass system with a lot of flow through the block (compared to the flow through the radiator) to scrub off the steam bubbles.

Do a google image search on GMC V12 and you'll see lots and lots of pictures of them, including some really off-the-wall unique projects.
