I just bought this truck and I finally got around to buying the pieces for my enclosed trailer.

I bought an adapter 7-way and plugged it into the harness on my truck and just got signals to works. The brake lights, and trailer lights don't work, anyone have any advice they can give me?

I thought maybe the plug itself needed to be cleaned or I may have a short. I'm not much of an electrical mechanic so any info would be appreciated, thanks.

Check the ground wire at back of the frame just fwd of rear bumper to see if it needs to be cleaned towing with that dirty will also pop the fuse in mid tow and you will lose brake & running lights also, for your 7 wire connector did you find the blue & orange factory "towing package" wires usually for aux and brake control tucked up & away on driver side frame rail by rear bumper?

The gnds your year ever though you have a gasser, should be very similar to the gnds in this thread http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/showthread.php?14596-6-5-grounds found in the TRL here http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/forumdisplay.php?218-6-2-and-6-5-Technical-Reference-Library

Thanks again, Doc. I'll check for those orange and blue wires in the morning. Also, I'll clean it and let you know if this helped. Thanks again.

So I got around to fixing that harness. It was exactly what you said it was, Doc.

Just a dirty connection, I took it apart cleaned everything and it worked like a charm.

Thanks for the help, and tips guys, much appreciated.

You might want to buy a tube of dielectric grease to put in those female connectors. That will transfer to the males and do a real good job of keeping corrosion to an absolute minimum.
