6x6

i always wanted to give those a try they look bad ass and i heard they are amphibious as well which is awesome.

I looked at these years ago as I thought the amphibious feature would be cool for fishing in a marsh near my home at the time. They only went 20mph on land at the time that was the only thing that stopped me.Oh and they were pretty spendy when I didn't have much green to spare.

A local implement dealer carries them. NOT CHEAP..... I believe that the base model starts around $10K.

I have a Max II. It will go nearly anywhere.

Are you a member over at route6x6 Tim?

Yes I'm member there Bud, same handle there as here.

FYI a base model is about $6k not 10 as was quoted earlier, also Richard's rellics sells them used as is or rebuilt for less than new, I just installed a 23Hp Vanguard up from a 16Hp in mine, I'm finishing out the install with the quiet muffler kit, project got put on back burner for a while so looking to get more grunt, on these 20 mph is plenty fast, mobility & go anywhere is what you are after, same as with a Diesel vs gasser; go end to end with a quad vs 6x6 of same engine class and 6x6 will out drag a 4x4, check out some of the vids on the 6x6 site.

I upped it to 23 Hp as I'm thinking of adding tracks to mine and 16 Hp won't move tracks well and the 23 hp Vanguard was on sale for same price as a 18Hp which is minumum engine recommended for using with tracks.

Small world. I met Jerry Nuss, Missouris Max Dealer, rogersmith and several others at that board at a couple of rides in Missouri.

I have thought about going with duals for the duck marsh, but am not sold on whether or not there would be improved flotation. I talked to Richard Clark about it, and he suggested a taller tire instead (like on the new Argo). We have to run through the water quite a bit, so I have not looked at tracks.

Resurrecting an old thread...

My Max II is going on the market in a few weeks...After my 2011 8x8 Argo Frontier with tracks gets built and delivered. :hihi:

No duck will find haven in the local marshes once that bad boy gets here.

I upped mine from 16 Hp Briggs to 23 Hp still gotta tweak the idle some it launches as soon as the engine comes to speed and "neutral drop" is hard way to run with it, gonna put tracks on it maybe next year, Richard @ Richards Relics said 16 Hp would be too underpowered for tracks, I use mine for hunting on land more than in water, so I need the "short wheelbase" of a 6x6 two passenger Max to move thru the woods

That 23 hp ought to be more than enough power for tracks. You might have to drop down to the 21" tire if you are not already running that size.

I'll post pics when the new one gets here. The tracks that I am getting are a new design by Tim at Adair Argo that give 5 mph water speed on the 8x8 Argo Frontier and are virtually unstoppable in the mud.

The factory build date is November 24, and it should be in my dealer's hands for upgrades a week later. I hope to have it by early to mid-December.

21" Rawhides on mine bought with intent that someday I'd be able to afford tracks for it, I still can't afford them :) but when I can, I'll be ready for them let me know how those 5 mph tracks work out, ones Richard sells drop off water speed to about 3 mph

Looks like a blast! I bet they move through the mud...

If you get a 6x6 or 8x8 stuck; you are stuck, no doubt about it I've gotten "high centered" more than stuck where belly is dragging just enough so that traction on wheels doesn't get a good bite, but with enough practice you learn how to avoid those times or how to "swim" it out of the mud. Tracks help with this, another tip is PAM cooking spray on the hulls belly so it slides over the mud easier.

I have had to use the winch on ours a few times, but that was early on when we were still learning how to run it. The only time that I stick it now is in bad, deep mud or very deep powdery snow. It will go places that no quad can make it through, even ones with the lift kit and snorkel.

The new one with tracks will undoubtedly have limitations that I will seek to find. :)
