hello guys.
i have a question i hope you can help me with, where can i find info on converting my 99 burb to a 6.5 TD.. i been searching and i come up short every time.. hints, trick and cost is what i am wanting to know... thank you for the info and you help... web sites and or someone that has done it will help out alot....

Dropping in a 6.2 is alot different than putting a 6.5 in a much newer vehicle. The 6.2s and mech. 6.5s have caveman like wiring compared to the electronic 6.5s. However your swap would be made pretty easy if you could find a donor truck and just swap everything in it. You would need engine(duh!), PCM, engine wiring harness, dash wiring harness, and the gauge cluster. You would also need the transmission if your Burb does not have the 4L80E in it, and if it does you will need the diesel torque converter.

im just wondering is there a installation guide or pic to show extent of the conversion... what would it cost... also pros and cons of it...
Thanks Cody

it is a 99 gmc burb, the tranny is 4L80E 4X4 2500 Burb with a 7.4 gasser... also i live in cali which may change the install because of smog BS.. dont know where to start......

How much time do you have on your hands? Like matt said above the easiest and cheapest way is to get a donor truck. Then it is just a matter to moving part by part till you're done. In Cali is a big problem. If you were swapping gas motors it wouldn't be a problem but going to a diesel it won't get approved by BAR (bureau of automotive repair). Your best bet is to get a pre 1974 vehicle and you can drop whatever you want into it.

Welcome to the site. There are a number of 99 'burbs out there. Perhaps purchasing a 6.5 burb would be a lot less hassle.

yeah some of us might even sell their diesel suburban in a attack of mental darkness *cough cough*

(stop calling me about that - a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do - i don't like it either ;-))

First thing i'd do is check with the CARB people and see what the emissions BS they will hit you with. Here in Atlanta we use the CA IM240 type testing and they really frown on "modified" autos and will give you a rash of crap to go through for a modified auto. I did a conversion a few years ago and had to go before the emissions board to get a partial waiver. They had to inspect the auto, see it run through their dyno and then make a decision if they will let you drive it or make you go back to the factory configuration. Total crap IMHO. :mad2:
