Looking to rebuild my first 6.5 TD, trying to look up all the little tricks that can be done, found one for the rear cam plug, running gear drive ( having trouble finding someone who sells this, Diesel services removed from web page, have not called them yet). using 6.2 precups in 6.5 heads for better fuel? ( have not yet found someone who sells them. would like to find someone who has built a 6.5 or several and has a parts list. of where i can find all the pieces that i need. dont want to spend a lot of money, I am very new to the 6.5 TD and want to learn all that i can before jumping feet first into a build. My goal is find more power, try to increase MPG, and make it bullet proof as much as i can. I dont want to build a 500hp monster.

Welcome to the site. There are several build threads, some rebuilds, look for Missy Good Wrench threads on rebuilds, lots of great info. The GM 6.5 seems to be a misunderstood engine, and extremely so with the elctronic fuel inejction models. There is a lot to learn. Technical manuals can be your friend.

As far as tricks for power and reliability, I posted a list of stuff to consider, its in the thread below, much applies to efficiency as well. The first recommendation on the list is the right knowledge base.

You would get more responses if you post threads like this in the general 6.5 engine section instead of the technical reference area. A moderator could move it for you.

Again, welcome

Cost effective way?

Get one of the take out "optimizer" military engines and go from there.

Better castings, lower mileage, lower cost and a (potentially) better base to work from.....
