Who makes them at the moment.

Of course, I heard about the chinese and brazilian blocks, but, other than that, who continue making them?

GEP/AM General build 6.5 engines, PENINSULAR too, but where do the block they use come from.

It is said that International Harvester build the 6.5l engine for the Humvee. True?
Fact is that the last engine (2005-2008 pattern) we received from Ted's has the IH diamond in the valley...

Navistar is new name for International Harvester. According to everything I have read they are casting the 6.5L blocks for AMG/GEP. I want one.

The double diamond is the international diamond, and that is who casts them. International casts the blocks and I believe the heads, and GEP builds them for PEN, military, GM, and others who buy genuine 6.5 engines.

Pretty obvious to tell if it's a P400 block. The extra block skirt is one clue. The cast in P400 would be another...

I also found this block on a 1997 K1500:

The casting number is... let's say... "funny". I wonder which origin is this block, supposed to be a 506.

I will ask the owner if it is the genuine engine or if it has been replaced

Look at the casting numbers back by the bellhousing, but I believe the early 506 97 blocks were like this with no numbers in the valley.

The early 506 GM castings are pretty much identical to the aftermarket chinese castings as they direct copied the GM castings.

the block that was in my 00 was just like that as well but when i tore it down i found this.

funny guy! just to clearify i was talking about every think being marked like that.

GM has done that in some engines for years. The 64 CORVETTE I just did was marked like that when I pulled it down for the first time, and many other engines I have dived into of GM's have also been marked and stamped all over. Many times the paint markings indicate a certain over or under size as most manufacturers now try to get teh piston to cylinder clearance within a 1/2 thousandth which requires pistons being offered in several different over and undersizes in small increments. And the rod caps can be stamped to help the assembly line workers to know which end goes out for faster assembly. And alot of engines have teh main caps marked right into the castings so you can't mix up the caps.
