It'll be interesting if I get much response here, but I'm still licking my wounds on the other site so I figured I'd give it a shot.

So I've got a recurring P1656 Wastegate control circuit error. I replaced the solenoid, and the problem didn't go away, The connector didn't look burned or anything, and the wires don't feel crinkly. Also the turbo seems to function correctly once underway, not a ton of black smoke, plenty of whistle, but no gauge so can't confirm anything. if I get moving and clear the code it stays away, tends to be an intermittent issue at start up/within 5 minutes of start up from cold.

theres a P0236 comes with it, but thats to be expected, the solenoid isn't firing at start up so it makes sense.

Any ideas? hoping it's not a computer fault...and can't spend much time working at it due to current injuries.

Vac pump is relatively new, and is putting out good vacuum, actuator is good, lines are good. the issue is on the solenoid side, not the turbo/vac side I know that for sure.

I'll be putting brand new batt cables in friday. I just picked up both side ground cables and the driver side positive/crossover from GM I did the pass positive to starter a couple years ago, but everything else is 12 years old now, figure it's time for new. That might solve it, I certainly won't change anything until after I do that. I hate fixing 10 things at once, and not knowing what solved the issues.

F or S engine? If it's an S engine it could be an EGR solonoid causing interference as they would use the same power feed. Check to make sure your getting full battery power to the solenoid when you turn the key on as teh ECM wil lcode if it doesn't see the battery voltage present at start-up when it does a circuit self test. Also check the connections at teh ECM, and make sure there is no harness damage below the accumulator where it passes through the firewall. Also check to make sure your fuel heater isn't shorted out. According to my diagrams for my 95, the wastegate solenoid is powered off of teh ENG1 fuese which also provides power to the fuel heater. With cooler weather here it may be getting a voltage drop from poor conenctions that is causing teh code during cranking when teh glow plugs are pulling teh voltage way down.

Good Ideas, I'll look into some of them

2000 K3500 F Code.

So no EGR interference, the glows dropping voltage sounds legit, my gauge drops to 8 when glows are lit/cranking..I was thinking of pulling the ecm connector and checking it, so that;s a good spot too. I'm wondering if the hi-idle pins are anywhere near the pin for the wastegate? maybe when I added those I did damage? seems odd it would take so long (years) to sprout but hey, anythings possible

Besides the battery grounds clean all the grounds on the pass side of the intake near the trans dipstick and any ground straps from frame to fire wall. I think there is an ecm ground under the dash.

I know that is what Les meant

Do tell... Nobody around here has been paying attention.

Or don't.

Well if you go to the other site you'll notice I'm no longer on staff....apparently...I didn't jive with the staff anymore. I was dumped monday morning, still trying to figure out the REAL reasons why, but anyways I'll look into the grounds and ECM connector, and I should probably scrounge some dough for a boost gauge...

So here's the thing about you showing up here burby. There are quite a few that felt you treated them pretty poorly as dp staff. Then here you come looking for help. You see we're pretty damn friendly and helpful over here no matter who you are. But you must know that there's some hackles raised up pretty high and we're not so sure you deserve much in the way of courtesy here. Just so you know... which you probably could have guessed anyhow.

Oh I'm sure there's some hackles raised, and I've noticed...in fact I'm being treated better here then there at the moment....go figure.

I've never had an issue personally with most of you, a couple yes, but hey, you can't get along with everyone.

I have to say...I'm disgusted at how I was handled over there, and I'm trying to figure out if my actions on staff there were me, or them...so...I had a valid and serious question, and wasn't getting answers there so I figured I'd pop in and see if you guys could help, and I'll even let you know what I do find when I get to fixing it.

won't get a chance till friday, Tommorow I'm at the hospital again getting 3 month follow up on my broken collar bone.

anyways, I won't be pushing any buttons here, as I said...I'm still licking wounds on one site, not looking to pick any fights here too.

P0236, Turbo Boost System. Isn't that triggered by the boost sensor on the intake (black rectangle)? I seem to recall having that code pop one night trying to leave Ellensburg and after mucho time spent trying to ascertain what else it might be, Bill and I swapped in a known good unit and I was driving SES-less again. Might be worth a try.

UNLESS the map sensor drives the wastegate circuit...which is entirely possible in the grand scheme of computerness...I doubt that the P0236 is substantive, rather it's a symptom of the P1656

Airing out laundry over here is uncalled for. Randy talked to you about what was on everyone's mind prior, you didn't change and although I had been gone for most of a week dealing with a death of a Fire Fighter and his memorial I tried to talk to you and you shut me down before I could give you more detail. You asked me why, but wouldn't listen, now you are over here? Coming here and whining about how you don't understand is just plain silly.

If you decide you would like to discuss this, I am available on my phone 24/7, as usual. You have the number, use it.

I could personally care less about everyone's sob stories however following him over here to further air things out doesn't jibe with what will be tolerated.

If you guys decide you want to lick your wounds, do it someplace else.

I know of people here that were banned for less than this post over there.

No Corporate America over here.

Now back on topic!
