I have a 1997 Chevy 6.5 turbo that stalls and will start right back up. On ocassion it will hiccup and not stall and sometimes it will stall. It does not behave as it is running out of fuel. It acts as if someone turned the key off.
We have been able to determine it loses timming at the same time. We have replaced the Cranck Sensor.
Greatly appreciate your help.
Thank You
Dan

Welcome, going to need more info....

What kind of vehicle do you have? Is your PMD remote mounted or still on the injection pump (IP)?

Describe the symptoms more, what exactly happens? When you say hiccup it loses power? When you say turn off the key do you mean all the dash lights and radio go out too?

Buddy,
Thanks for the reply. Appreciate it.

It is a 1997 Chevy 3500 4wd dump truck
I believe the PMD is still on the pump. Will have to check to be 100% sure.
It loses power when it hiccups.
Light and instrument panel still on in truck. 90% of the time I can start truck while it is still rolling.

Thanks
Danny

haha...I've done that a number of times myself lol. Sounds like PMD failure, but please do the 6.5 checklist and lets go from there. It's not always a PMD issue, but it usually is. :smile5:

Could in fact be the PMD, especially if it is on the IP still, need to get it off of there regardless if it is the problem now, and I'd suggest going with a new D-Tech type on a remote mount kit. You can get them on ebay for $150-$190 and there is a vendor here that sells remote cables and youll need a heatsink, also something people on ebay sell, but there have been more than a few failed extension cables from ebay sellers. Heath Diesel give a 7 year warranty with their kit.

However, it sounds a lot like a fuel shutoff solenoid intermittent failure. That is an easy part to replace, unscrews from top of IP, however costs quite a bit. I had the same issue, and it turned into no-starts and playing with PMD might have gotten it going, becuase PMD sends signals to the Fuel Shutoff Solenoid, but swapping the fuel shutoff solenoid got rid of my problem completely with no PMD change.

Welcome, Dan; have you pulled the Diagnostic Trouble codes, yet?

PMD will not directly set a code, but may set 'sympathy' codes - other things malfunction because of a bad PMD, so their codes show up.

There is a code for bad FSO solenoid circuit; 0215, according to my list.

There is a link in my signature to get to the Troubleshooting checklist.

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to say thanks for all the help. Gives us a good starting point.
Really appreciate the help.

Thanks
Dan.

P.S. The PMD is still mounted on the pump.Original equipment.
