hi guys my name is greg. my 96 6.5 l td in a stock silverado wont crank over. i hear the starter spinning, but no engaging the flywheel. i went and boughjt new starter and installed it but does the same thing. i took the original starter to store and had it tested. it was good. any help?

yes ak the flywheel and starter ring gear look in excellent condition and also kicks out. like i said took the starter to autozone and had it tested it was good

I had the same problem with two consecutive autozone starters. The test does not put the starter under a working load. Try to get the $ back and buy a starter ( can't remember brand somebody help "power something".

Powermaster. Also make sure your batts are good and all cable connections are good and clean. Visual inspection is not good enough. Low power bad grounds does weird things

figured it out

hey guys i found the problem. the flywheel is sheared off at the middl;e part. the bolts are still holding middle part on but the outside is literally not attached. just thought youd like to know what it was

Glad you found it, not too pricy or hard to fix. Always good to post the final fix for someone in the future.

Ok, most of the time, this is caused by people not installing the bracket back where it should be!!!

Check that starter bracket, otherwise, you will have the same issue again soon after you fixed it.
