Hey guys. I am working on a k10 for a trail truck. I am working on the suspension parts now but am planning on a 6.5 for the drivetrain. Ive got a 599 long block and the intake and exhaust manifolds. When I rebuild this combo should I go with lower comp pistons? what mods do/will i need to run this with a mechanical injection pump? if it matters the truck will have a th400 for a trans.

thx for the advise

Unless you are going to boost the sucker clean to the moon and tow real heavy I would stay with stock comp ratio

Use a 4911 injection pump with this setup. Have your injectors set for the 4911 Pump

Using the 18:1 pistons is fine if you plan to pull very heavy and really boost the sucker. You will need to use a charge cooler

There are some issues when using the 18:1 comp ratio.
Cold starts can be a tad anoying in the cold weather
Lengthening the glow time and making sure that the injectors are in top shape and set to the top of the pop specs.

For all but brutal service I would stay with the stock comp.

21.3:1 or even the later 19:1 real late 6.5 production is fine.

ATT would be perfect fit as it makes more boost volume with lower psi (same boost levels as the GM-X turbos max out at) so you can stay stock CR also lower back pressure with ATT & better mpg.

I don't need MPG. This is a pure trail truck. Its got 5.13 gears with lockers, 40" tires and no license plates. I need power down low (hence the diesel) and the ability to occasionally run at 3500-4000 for a min or two. Think of getting out of the mud or... kind of like a long pull up a pass. That's why I thought the ATT would be so good for my setup.

Also this truck has a 250 i6 in it right now with an sm465. Due to that I wanted to swap to a full mechanical setup for simplicity. Thats the reason I found a 599 long block that I will be tearing into soon. I didn't know, since I will be doing a complete rebuild, if lower comp pistons would be worth while with the different turbo.

thx for the advise. if you have any more please let me know.
