I've pulled the engine out of my 2500LD and have rounded off a few bolts. I was wondering if someone sells a bolt kit with all the bolts. I don't want to pay over $5 per bolt at the stealer. Am I dreaming that such a kit even exists? It's mostly exhaust and turbo bolts that I really need but all would be good.

I know my local napa can only get a few of the bolts individual from Help[dorman]. I'm thinking a complete kit since I have 5 of the 6.5s to build. It would be nice to just have them on hand when I find a questionable one and just replace it with new. These are all minnesota trucks so rust is a problem.

Thanks. I tried those places and they had nothing listed. I've contacted a place called AlloyBoltz. com. They said they don't have a spec. sheet for the 6.5 but they could maybe piece one together if I can supply them with the size and length of all the bolts. Looking like I have alot of measuring to do for just a maybe.
Does anyone know where I might get the bolt specs for a 6.5?

I can't help you with the specs, but do you have a hardware store near you - like Bison mentioned? Just stop by with the bolts you need in hand - most local (mom & pop) stores are more than happy to help. Just a thought.

I usually bring my bolt to a "mom and pop" hardware store. If they don't have it, they usually know the closest nuts and bolts store. One time I was looking at Lowe's and they did not have it. The person that helped me told me a couple of specialized nuts and bolts store in the area that may have it. He said, if they don't have it, nobody's does.

Phone Bill....if he doesn't sell them, he will tell you where to get them....

Most bolts used on these engines are 6,8 and 10mm. any respectable automotive or bolt and brg supply stores can get them. the may not be the same design as GM bolts, but that dont matter,as long as you get the same size and strengt.
I have never had a problem getting any metric bolt, even stainless steel ones, and I live in a sparsely inhabitted area , biggest city has 6000 people in 150 ml radius.

I'm looking to get stainless. I don't want them to rust as the originals did. Alloy boltz is a arp dealer so their stuff is top shelf. If I get them the sizes others could benefit by being able to buy a kit with all the bolts.
I'll give bill a call to see what he says. If any one would know where to get a kit I guess it would be him. I'll give kennedy a try also. I do have a fastenal store fairly close by also. They didn't have much on their web site.

Grainger might be a good place. I checked their website and the closest ones to you would probably be in St. Cloud and then in Plymouth. It appears that you can make an order online and then either have it shipped or do a will-call pickup yourself at the closest store. I use their US website often and then take the part numbers to our local store to order them in person.

McMaster-Carr has most sizes in multiple materials. Lowes is a good source for non length critical bolts ie. you may need to get a longer bolt than stock.

Fastenal is a chain nut and bolt and other things store. as a chain, they will rarely have much, but tell them to look it up, giving them size, length, grade, threads, etc. and they will ask what finish? I think this level of custimization will be available for all hardware, but I am not sure.

I was impressed when we were working on an IH tractor (856 w/ TA) and needed a 6 1/4" long, grade 5, 1/4" fine thread bolt for the dump valve, and they didn't have it, but had one within a week, and it cost less than a dollar.

I talked to bill heath today. He said he had never heard of a bolt kit for the 6.5 but he thought it would be a great idea. Even just a exhaust bolt kit would be a great improvement. It's looking like i'm going to spend some time measuring and then looking for the best price. Thanks for the input on where to look.

I get mine at Autozone or Checker if I need a 10.9 (grade 8), and at Lowes, Home Depot, or the local hardware store if a grade 5 will work. You can't always get the shoulder heads, but the factory only uses those to save a couple of seconds per bolt. Just get flat washers.
