Pulled the intake, IP, accessories and cylinder heads off the truck. These are the numbers off the block: back drivers side bellhousing 2552929, passenger side bellhousing 1625. The drivers side valve cover has a raised GM logo and spec card. I assumed it was a reman block but when I measured the bore she miked at 4.045 or so. What have I got? Is this the bored over original block? I thought 93 was the last year of the 929 blocks. The valley has 929 cast in dots. The cylinder heads have a GM stamp and have a casting number of 13225. Any help figuring out what block and cylinder heads I have and what year they are would be appreciated.

On another note I found a severely bent pushrod, the worst I have seen. Both valve and head appear to be fine. What causes this? Reman defect? Previous owner stated she had a miss and blew white smoke... he thought it was a head gasket.

were all the rocker buttons in place? i've had one of my trucks lose the button, and kept driving it so long, the lifter failed, and the rocker was broken in half.
amazing the trucks drive so well with two dead cylinders... only problem is the white CLOUD of smoke!

When I popped the valve cover the pushrod was in the lifter but not under the rocker arm. It was also on the #2 intake valve.

I'd suspect ether on the bent pushrod

I agree. Especially with it being the intake valve. I also know the guy I bought it did appear to be a font of 6.5 knowledge and he owns several large pieces of equipment. An excavator, tractor, etc.

The po owner did state it was missing and blowing smoke.... guess we now know why!!!!

The rust I think is from condensation since the valve covers were sealed. I think the truck has been sitting since before the inspection expired in 04. In the spring we get these quick warm ups and the temps will go from really cold to really warm and everything in my un heated garage will sweat. Even the concrete floor sweats. I start my 69 pickup on those days to "dry" it out. Others wise the chrome will rust and the aluminum will turn white. I suspect this motor went thru a few of these cycles.

Now, back to first question. Anybody have any idea if the heads and block are original to the truck? Did they still make 929 block in 95? Is this a decent block?

Plans are to run the A-Team as the turbo appears to be shot.

A 929 block is either a 95 or very early 96. The 599 block was used from late 91- very early 95, and the 141 started in early 96. The 929 is almost always a 95 block.

I thought it might be the original block. The date code appeared to be 1625. Does that mean Jan. 1995?

Also, how far should the pistons be down in the hole? Unsure since this block has been rebuilt if it has been decked. I am assuming 4.045 means it is 40 over.

Is the 599 worth anything? I know of one local that I could pick up real cheap. Already checked the heads, and only one is cracked. I haven't pulled the pan to check the mains yet.

Make sure it's a 6.5L as the 599 could also be a 6.2L.

The entire casting number is 10149599. So would this be a 6.2 or 6.5? And if it's a 6.5, is it worth anything?

It is a 599 block. Our trucks came factory with a 599 block. Mine has been running strong for over 207,000 miles.

If it is cheap, real cheap go for it.

I believe it should have 6.5 or 6.2 stamped somewhere on the block as 91-93 6.2's used the same exact casting number as the first 6.5's did. They even sold 6.2's and 6.5's at the same time with the same 599 casting number.

929 block is not a bad one. 929 were kinda all over. same with the 141. as long as it's not a 506 -- wouldn't even use it for a boat anchor ( unless it has 200k miles on it)

the money block is a 599 - 6.2 bore. I am a buyer for these always.

Depends on the 506 casting. The 506 block could also be a GEP block which is better than any GM casting, but it could also be a Chinese block.
