I want to build a 6.2 bottom end with the 6.5 top end. I have the short block already and will be picking up some heads from the yard. Is everything pretty much interchangable other than internals. What other steps do I need to take before I drop this thing off at the shop for preping.

Thanks

Way out of my element, but I recall reading from one of the guys who did this that there was an issue with the waterpump mounting area being slightly off, and chewing through belts as a result. I'm not sure why or where, but something to bring to attention just to rule it out that I am probably wrong.

Only posted this as nobody responded. Hopefully someone who has actually attempted anything of this sort will chime in on what to look for / avoid.

I'm doing this right now 6.2 with the 6.5 stuff and a ATT. As for the water pump from what I've not heard of any issues. Just make sure you get everything from the front of the donor motor. AS from build up take a look at my post in the 6.2 section or do a search of my name, because I asked a lot of questions on here about blocks/heads, casting numbers, IP's etc.... before I started so those post might help out

AFAIK should be no problem as long as you use everything of the 6.5. I know GM had discontinued the factory new 6.2s and replaced them with the 6.5 and it was recommneded for 6.2 replacement so I would think if the 6.2 stuff fits on a 6.5 the 6.5 "should" fit a 6.2.
It's the route I'd probably go. Much eaiser and cheaper to find a used 6.2.
