I'm going to put a 4L80-E in our 4 door Tahoe, behind the 6.5. I picked up a core tranny today. Question is ,how should I control it ? At first I was thinking a full manual shift kit from Trans Go,but it needs vacuum . PCS has a controller with knobs for around $550. I'm also considering taking the computer ,and wiring out of my 92 truck, which used to have the 4L80-E ,this would be free. How bad is the factory programing on a 92 computer ? I also for see lots of issues with the torsion bar mount, and the retarded crossmember behind that, which is also tight against the gas tank . 2 door Tahoes and Suburbans have rear tanks,I think the crossmembers are back farther also . I do have the torsion bars from my 97 truck that are longer, plus the mount which is also better. The Tahoe has a dumb floating torsion bar mount. Note , the Tahoe torsion bars are about 1/2 the thickness of a 1500 gas truck bar.

This is a 94 tranny with no safety neutral switch. So the computer will not know what gear its in. I wonder if it wouldn't be able to be shifted manually with no wiring at all .

The switch on the side of the trans is for neutral safety for the starter and the gear indicator. The ECM still reads the gear based off of the hydraulic switch inside the transmission.

Thanks. I might check ALLDATA for the factory wiring diagram on a 92 chevy truck. Also I need to deal with all the 350 vortec wiring,it sure has a lot. Is a stock torque converter ok for a 300 hp ? 6.5 . I don't imagine the 8.5 rear will last very long either. I will probably go with a 9.5 14 bolt with 6 lug axles.

Any one ever brake the input shaft or slip the stock converter clutch ? I'm trying to decide how much it needs beefed up. I pretty much decided to get the Transgo HD2 kit and go with 92 factory wiring and computer ,and a manual/ auto lockup switch.

Can any one tell me what rpm the stock torque converter stall speed is ? And are they any good . Also would like to know what rpm full throttle upshifts would be with a 92 Diesel truck computer, and can you lug them at all or will it be constantly down shifting. What I'm worried about is that the stock computer will not shift when I want it to,and shift when I don't want it to . Never drove an automatic 6.5 except my 92,and it had just 1st and 2nd gear.

Got a Trans Go HD-2 kit,and I am seriously considering using a factory tcu and wiring. I've studied the wiring diagrams for a 93 tcu,and noticed the speed buffer wire goes to the computer also. Will there be a problem if the speed buffer is from a vehicle with a different axle ratio ? Also the speedometer is currently operated by the vortec computer. Can the transfercase speed sensor run the stock computer, and a speedbuffer at the same time ?
