I have a 489 stroker in my 86 GMC 4x4 truck. It has a huge solid roller cam. It was sitting for 3 years ,but started occasionally . I put it back on the road, but the motor has an intermittent squeak/clank. Do you think it could be a lifter,or spun main bearing ? I had a lifter wheel come off before. Eventually I want to put this motor in my 86 Monte Carlo SS . I love the power and rpms of the solid roller, but when I freshen it I might just go with a big hydraulic roller, then I can set it and forget about it. It runs great,no missing or popping through the intake. This motor will rev to 8000 rpms, but tapers off around 7500.

When you're making that kind of power it's always best to go through the motor if you suspect a problem with the internals. Alot cheaper than finding out what was wrong after it scatters...
JM2C because that's what I'd do.

If it spun a main bearing wouldn't it also have rod knock ? It definnetly needs to be taken apart . I'm considering putting in a Vortec 350 with a carb intake and a cam with around 230 duration at .050. I have 3 Vortec motors, one is a 4 bolt with the powdered metal rods, but they all have bearing issues.
