Dads beloved feed truck finally bit the bullet at 180k miles.

I have found him a replacement 5.4 w/ 80k for 1k now he needs swap info.

So far 2 shops have turned him down because of the need to pull the cab. How much truth is there to this? I know diesels had this need, what about the little gasser?

Thanks for any pointers, I know this isn't a ford forum but I like to ask here.

Yes cab removal is nessary, but not that difficult engine sits far behind Fire wall I removed one with out pulling cab but the body had hit a moose so I just cut core support out with gas powered cut off saw, I know I'm a cheater, but a lift is almost a must to lift cab, ps hate fords

Get him a 6.5 truck already and send the Ford to the graveyard... :D

The motor I had found was a Vin L and I need a Vin 5 (8th digit)

Search continues. When the new motor gets here it will get a cam phaser lockout kit installed before it goes in and tuned for proper operation.

Only 180K? Is that normal for a Ford gasser? We've had 5.3L Vortec's go for 250K + and then sold them. So I don't know how long they actually lasted..

I already pointed out to him my 03 6.0 has 197k and the LBZ is pushing 260k.

Honestly he stopped changing the oil when the phaser started knocking, its not a normal failure. He just stopped giving a crap honestly.
