2007 GMC K2500 LBZ 265k miles

Clean, well so what? The high miles are going to be a black hole on injection system parts let alone the rest of the truck will $50 and $100 you to death. Transmission, transfer case, drive shaft rebuilds, head gaskets, maybe 3rd water pump is near due, door hinge pins...

Yes you could get lucky, but, it's better to have put the miles on yourself and how what's been done and how well cared for. Even then 300K was the upper limit before the Duramaxes were complete black holes with our broker hauling parts all over.

Ummm 274,000 miles this morning on the 300k upper limit duramax. Guess I better start shopping for the 1st replacement water pump, injectors, transfer case, transmission, u-joints, head gaskets, hinge pins,... Because they are ALL original and not showing a bit of age. Sure hope they don't all puke at once.
And remember, I'm on northern Illinois winter #9 for this truck. Clean generally indicates an owner that cares about what you see as well as what you don't.

OK I'll now remove the tongue from cheek:p

Mines not near that nice and has worked everyday of its life

I've had a water pump go out at 150k and a couple other minor issues. I still don't hesitate to hook to anything and pull to my hearts content

Not saying isn't not possible - just the miles catch up and it gets expensive to keep them going no matter how little or much care they get. The Fuel injection system needing injectors was an expense even on the 2005+ trucks our broker used. (powerservice used every tank didn't help.) GM did revise the fuel filter a few times. Front end work is a common wear item, but expensive.

So our parts broker found that pushing the trucks over 300K just wasn't worth the cost over getting a used reg cab Duramax to replace it. I am sure the towing full load or more every day and rough grades didn't help. Care was minimal. One expense that was rare: brakes. Trailer brakes, yes, but, not on the truck.

I rebuild the front myself.

Injector price on 04.5 and newer off set the cost of install. Lb7 injectors actually cost less in parts than newer injectors

A lot of that is the cost of paid mechanics vs DIY. 300,000 was limit for every fleet I know of. But the company would sell them and a couple of us bought them for beaters. Still affordable to run as a back up, but not trustable as a dd unless you don't have to stick to a tight schedule where breaking Down 3-4 times a year is ok.
I see both sides, I just say if you run them above 350,000- have free towing on your insurance.

In reality, I wouldn't want to buy one at over about 200k unless I knew the truck's owner since it was new. There aren't alot of people that meet my standards for vehicle maintenance. I have no idea how long mine will last. I bought it with 300k in mind as the maximum. Anything beyond that is a bonus in my pocket.
