I need a front bumper for my 1999 Suburban. Rockauto sells them for 139.95 without the bumper strip, but the shipping is $189! I gotta find someone who ships for free or is in SoCal that I can pick it up.

Lookie what I found in a Pick a Part boneyard in Ontario, CA after dropping my wife off at the airport:

The bumper is straight and rust free. I'm going back out to get it now.

That bumper was $59 + $5 core. It's perfectly straight and no rust on the chrome side. Replacing the old which got tweaked in a deer incident.

Bumper in the back of my Honda Accord:

Also picked up this grill, lower lights and the bumper filler:

Good score on both!!! That price was good. I paid $100 for a bumper and air dam in similar condition. Finding an undamaged grill in a pick-n-pull is very hard to do. It took me over one and a half years to find one.

While on this trip, I visited Pick & Pulls in Reno and Carson City. I was looking for a blue hood to replace my crumpled one. They had none, except that the one in Carson had a blue Tahoe with beautifully clean hood and grill behind a fence. I asked about it and it was not available to Pick as it had not cleared title. I called several times to check during the rest of the trip, fully prepared to detour that way. Even went down the Eastern Sierras via South Lake Tahoe to do so, but it still had not cleared title. I ended up finding a straight blue hood for $94 at a Pick & Pull in Rancho Cordova east of Sacramento. The clear coat is a bit milky vs that on my '99, but my '99 had some peeling clear. Just resolved to the fact that it will never be perfect, but it's close.

That Pick a Part out in Ontario goes through inventory fairly quickly. Usually a lot of Chevy Trucks and Suburbans out there. Can always find clean doors and hoods, even color matched. That said, this was the first diesel I've seen and the engine and transmission were long gone. Truly a stroke of luck that I found this bumper, even better that it only had the top bolts on and it came off in minutes.
