Back before I knew better, I bought a crashed 1999 K1500 6.5 diesel Suburban for the transmission. It would start and move, but was totaled

The intent was to install that transmission into the 1998 K2500 6.5 Diesel Suburban.

I never got to it. Sold everything. The guy that bought everything, said the transmission would only shift into m 2nd gear when driving.

It would go reverse, 1 & 2 but wouldn't shift into 3rd when driving.

At the time we just assumed the trans was damaged when it hit the tree.

Anymore, I wonder if there were differences that caused the issues.

Any opinions?

Happened srveral years ago.

Yeah that sounds like limp mode. it happens when the PCM sees an issue like a bad sensor or slippage and will go into limp mode to allow you to drive home in some situations. the 99 and 98 models should be the same though. I would assume ether an issue in wiring, back sensor or something in the trans caused that.

I lost track of what happened to it.

I probably would have bought it back if I had somebody to do the work it needed.

We miss having a Suburban.

I don't remember if he was on the forums or just Facebook or what.
