Question 1: is it a good idea to replace the timing chain at 200K?
question 2: In our Pace catalog, there is a GMPP "single roller design" timing chain kit. it says that it can be used on all 87 and newer small block engines with roller lifter camshaft, except LT1, LT4, and 1997-up LS1. It also says that it will NOT work on flat tappet camshafts.
My question is, would the 5.7L in dad's 98 have a roller lifter cam? We took for granted that it was a flat tappet cam.
This GMPP kit is the only one that i found(from three racing catalogs) that might work on a Vortec. all the others say that they only go up through 95. I was just wondering if this will work, as i don't want to spend more at the dealer and get just a regular timing chain, i was really leaning toward a roller.
Any help appreciated, thank you!
