1996 GAS K1500 Brake problem

We changed pads and shoes. We never disconnected anything.

When we put everything back together we lost pedal when we started the truck.

We have pedal with the Suburban NOT running. As soon as we start the truck we lose the brake pedal.

It acts like air in the lines. But we never opened anything up to allow air to get in the lines.

We bled the brakes anyway and got no air.

We then changed the master cylinder and it is still acting exactly the same.

We checked the wheel cylinders and they are dry. We see NO leaks.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Proportioning valve hung closed. Had this happen to a 93 before, and ended up going to a junkyard to get another one to fix it.

It had no brakes when you pushed on the pedal unless you slammed on it, then it only got partial pedal. I had somebody push the brakes, and I watched the little valve inside the proportioning valve push out everytime the brakes were pushed.

Hold in the pin on the combination (proportioning) valve and have a helper gently pump up and bleed a few times.

Here's a copy-post from a forum I'm a member of. Hotrodders dot com.

Attach a test light to a positive 12-volt source. Touch the point of tester to the pin in the center of the plastic plug on side of combination valve. If NO light goes on the system is operating correctly.
If light goes on...this indicates the pressure valve is stuck in front or rear position.
Bleed brake system to determine which system...front or rear is not getting proper flow of fluid. One system will squirt fluid...other system will trickle.
The system with the flow must be opened for flow to alter the pressure on opposite side to center valve.
Slowly depress pedal with steady pressure until light goes out. When light goes out close bleeder.
The system is now centered. Bleed complete system.
