Dad is in Idaho, and is looking for a vehicle to come back in.

He found a 1995 K series 6.5L (2500 or 3500, IDK) 5spd 4x4. The paper says needs clutch.

Dad called, and the cowboy said the clutch would not disengage.

Surely the clutch needs bled, or at worse master and or slave cyl. right?

Dad needs a vehicle to get out here quick, so surely this would be a quick project right?

To replace the slave cylinder, you need to drop the tranny and transfer case.

Mine is out side the bell housing also (1995 NV 4500)

The clutch may be fried but that is not that big a job, new clutch pressure plate and solid flywheel from a 6.2 will work. I replaced my two piece flywheel with a LUX single and pressure plate, GOOD set up.

Might just need a slave cylinder or clutch master cylinder on firewall.

I stand corrected.

Like I always tell the youngsters "I know alot, but don't know it all" :D

Center of the clutch disc may have broken out. That will also give a no release situation and is a fairly common problem with these trucks.

I put a Zoom Hi-po clutch from Summit in mine when it broke. Also replaced the clutch slave cylinder while the tranny was out rather than waiting unitl it died and having to pull the tranny again.

So the pressure plate or clutch disc may very easily be bad as well? keep in mind it won't DISengage, aka, keeps going, pedal does nothing.

The truck is 2500 bucks as is.

If, when the "clutch does nothing" the pedal is very hard to mash it's probably something mechanical like mine was - clutch fork pivot ball had never been lubed and it was worn down to the point there was no ball left and it was starting to punch through the clutch fork. Pressure plate could be cracked.
If the clutch is very easy to mash when it's doing nothing probably hydraulic related; master, slave or leak in the line.

The center of the clutch disc broke out of mine while in Grand Junction, CO. (just had it and the slave cylinder replaced 2 months prior to the trip) Anyway, went to stop at a stoplight and no pedal, nothing there. Bled it out and replenished fluid and still nothing. Ended up driving home back to MN, 1200 miles with clutch not disengaging. Starting out from a dead stop was a challenge, but once rolling the rest was easy, shifting up or down.

Got home and the shop that had done the work had sold out and the new owner wouldn't stand behind it. I took it somewhere else and they found the broken disc that said "made in china" on it.
