1992 Chevy K1500 Scottsdale 4WD Ext Cab SB

The mileage is in line with the age of it, but I would not buy it and not expect it to be a project vehicle.

If you can get it with a WRITTEN 3 day $ return, then take it to a front end shop and verify complete condition. Do a compression test, and send in an oil sample. Pull the diff covers, just catch the oil so your not buying all new oil for a truk you may give back.

Tow something heavy with it to see how it does.

I ALWAYS take any vehicle to a smog shop and pay the $20 pass or fail. (Getting my smog will be required anyways) while on the test drive. I do it at the end once I decided to buy it as a last check. If it fails, I lost $20, not thousands.

Since it is a car lot sale, they are required to have certian things pass inpection- brake pad thickness, etc. usually it's around 20 items-find out from your dmv, and hold them to it. That is the only advantage to buying used from a lot- you will pay more but can hold them accountable. New pads, new windshield wipers, bushings, etc can add up to $ saved on your end. I had a friend that bought a $3000 truck that the car lot had to put in around $2,800 to bring it up to snuff. It's worth the time to learn your states rules.

Thank you Will!

Again - I'm learning more again.

Turns out the truck is being sold on consignment, so I couldn't do anything anyhow. Just thought I'd check.

To much money for it in my opinion for that many miles. And 92 was the last year of the 4l60/700r4 trans. 93 started the 4l60E electronic shifted trans, and IMO they were MUCH better as they didn't suffer the governor/TV cable problems that the earlier non electronic version sufferred. Otherwise it's just a BASIC TBI engine, not much for power if stock, and not that great of mpg either stock.
