Hello again, my truck is in great shape but has certain esthetic needs! LOL Just got back from the AC repair shop. My compressor was locked up when I got the truck so a friend gave me one off his truck that worked when he pulled the engine out and I put it on mine. The shop put 134a fittings on mine and gassed it up to check it out and they say the condenser behind the grill was stopped up with stop leak and they could try to flush it out so I said ok try it and so after a bit they came back out and said the accumulator was also stopped up and it would be $500.00 at least to fix it. It is so high because they say the grill has to come off the front to replace the condenser and the accumulator is inside the dash and is a big deal to get it all taken apart! So I paid them for the examination and came home. Now my question 4 yall is..... I read where u can try to flush the stop leak out of the accumulator and condenser with solvent to get it to work again. Can anyone get me straight on this? Thanks its really hot in the Carolinas now!!!

Sounds like the shop is a bunch of crooks. The accumulator(or dryer as I like to call it) is located under the hood by the pass side firewall .(Big silver looking thing.) Make sure you use 2 wrenches and be careful If you twist up the line going into the cab then you will be in for a nightmare. I hate shops that are lying sacks of shit out to rip people off. By an a/c flush kit and flush the thing out yourself. The clog is most likely at the orifice which should be replaced anyway. That should be in the condenser. 500$ to change the accumulator ? You should call the DMV and the state attorney's office on the bastard. The grill comes off in about 5 mins and I doubt there is anything wrong with the condenser save for the orifice. You'll know when you try to flush it. It is generally the orifice that causes a blockage. If your old compressor was locked up it probably came apart and clogged it. A good system flush is in order. Dump the oil out of the compressor as well and refill with 8-10 oz of esther oil. Don't use PAG oil, use esther oil. PAG oil eats the shit out of older systems.

WEAR SAFETY GLASSES AT ALL TIMES WHILE FLUSHING !!

Just to expand on what I said if you have no experience, before you flush disconnect all lines. Remove the orifice, DO NOT flush the compressor, only drain and refill. Remove and discard the accumulator. Flush the evaporator while the accumulator is removed.

OOps I wrote wrong I thought the accumukator was the thing inside the cab that makes the cold air. Its the condenser hat they said is stopped up mand the whatever it is thats stopped up inside the cab inside all that dash etc.

Evaporator thats it! They said the evaporator was stopped up. Where do u get a flush kit? Would a Advance Auto sell the flush kit, orifice and accumulator? Thanks Ace!

Im tring to remember what I used for flush last time, it was either Kerosene or mineral spirits to flush the bulk of it then a small amount of a/c flush as a final purge. Mine had some dye in it and it would have been expensive to have done the job only with a/c flush.
You can get a/c flush at most auto parts.
Buy the Kero or mineral spirit in a gallon can then remove orfice in condenser, diconnect hoses from compressor, remove dryer. Pour the flush into each part and let it sit for a few then blow it out with air. Repete until flush comes out clean. Use a/c flush as a final rinse.
Do you have a vac pump?

Hey Leroy.....HELP????? Plz read my other thread plz? Do u mean to pull a vacuum after I put it back together? I can get a shade tree mechanic friend to do the pull a vacuum thing and get him to put the oil and freon in, he doesnt do diesels or ac work but he will put 134a in for $30 if u bring ur own oil charge and 134a.

What other thread? got a link?
Yes, pull a vac.
Also before I pull a vac I will pressureize the system with air or freon then check for leaks (bubble test) then pull a vac for an hour. Let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour and see if it leaked down. If it did you still have a leak.

Kenny and Don know alot more about a/c than me.

I would not use kerosene. Use either a/c flush or denatured alchohol. I'm sure a flush kit can be bought online somewhere. I bought mine years ago through the autoparts store. It was made by Four Seasons. I serioulsy doubt the evaporator is "clogged" up.

Leroy look under 6.2 forum for my thread about my oil pressure gauge going crazy and my LP not running after engine is turned off. I had some answers about it being the OPS, I really dont wont that 4 a answer, that thing looks like u have to take the engine apart to get to it! Chk the thread pls 4 info, I dont know how to put a thread link in blue ink like u guys do, sorry but thanks ! Hey Ace hang n there we gonna fix the AC but first I gotta get to the trailride. Is denatured alcohol the same as rubbing alcohol? While I got the grill off doing the condenser thing I can clean the condenser, its grimy, what u reccomend Ace? I think Buddy said scrubbing bubbles and warm water. Also do u take the headlites off to get the grill off? Also b a good time to put my tranny cooler on. U all got any advice on that? B patient Ace I really am not retarded just try to be careful to understand the fix so that I dont have to fix the fix or worse yet fix what the fix or my awkward self broke!

I use gunk engine degreaser but any kind of de greaser I'm sure will work fine. I steam clean mine(not powerwash, STEAM clean) powerwashing will bend the fins. Yeah I suppose you could use rubbing alchohol but denatured is cheaper and your gonna probably need 2 gals from what it sounds. You can get denatured at any hardware store or Home depot/lowes in the paint section. Ops isn't that bad, just need a special socket. Can find them on eBay. I just did. Made by Kent Moore. I think OTC makes one as well.
