Hello i need help, i have a 1988 chevy K3500 cheyenne with a 350 in it, truck has always ran fine, it sat for about a month and when i went out to use it one day, it would not start, charged battery not that, changed battery cables, not that, got new battery not that. i have no power to anything inside the truck, nothing to the fuse box under dash or anywhere inside the cab, I do have power to the starter, i changed the ground wire and still nothing, i don't know what to do and really need this truck. from what i can make out i only have power to the start and nowhere else. it is a 4wd

Over on the passenger side of the firewall just above the accumulator for the A/C will be the fusible links, relays, and a couple of fuses behind a black plastic cover(it may be gone by now as many people removed them. Check for power there, and look to see if any of the fusible links look burnt.

Ok i found a Black wire pretty thick but not as thick as a battery hot wire, like one size down from it, it was near the starter and has been burn off by the exhaust pipe, and not sure what it hooks to? it runs up to the battery junction block on the back fire wall of the truck. so i touched it to the hot side of the battery and everything worked fine and the truck started and shut off ok. started it like 3 times. just don't know what is hooks to? the starter maybe? or can i leave it hooked to the battery like i have it know. or why would it have to go on the starter somehow?

Probably hooks to the starter on the same lug as the battery cable.

Yep, it hooks up at teh starter IIRC. You can hook it to the battery as well though, just needs a good solid connection. I think theres supposed to be a fusible link in it at the connection though for a main fuse.

Yep. That's the one I was referring to. It is perfectly fine to move that to the battery, but you MUST go buy 6" of fuseable link wire at the parts store. Crimp an eyelet on one end to go to the battery, and butt splice crimp it to the wire. You can not solder these, it will ruin it. You will probably have to extend the regular wire to get it to reach the battery. Factory ran it to the starter for time saving on the assembly line.

After that all you have at the starter is the big positive battery cable, and the small wire to the start post.
