I need to replace the tires on the wifes 04 Avalanche 1500. Found a nice set used for short money, but they came off a 2500 and are LT, load range E 10 plys. Same size, but on the 1500 it is a P series and not heavy duty. I'd like to scoop up these tires, but I'm afraid the ride will suffer. If it were me driving it I wouldn't hesitate, but it's the old ladies truck and she will no doubt be unhappy if it ends up riding like a one ton.
What do you think??

You can mange the ride with air pressure adjustment, no need to run 80 psi on a half ton. I ran them on my wife's old dodge 1500 and she didn't mind.

You can safely run them down to 50 psi. I doubt you'll notice all that much difference. The 1/2 ton suspension is pretty soft and will most likely absorb any extra stiffness from the tires.

LR E's wear faster, though. My friend's dad got a set like that for his 1500, and they are wearing fast.

Weird, I would have thought the LTs would wear better. At this point I really need tires and for the money, I think I'm going to do it. I couldn't even buy two new ones for what they're asking. Just need someting to get me through another year, so I'm not as worried about buying a brand new 50,000 mile tire or anything.

I would think you get good wear out of those tires. As was pointed out run them 50-55psi and they are safe. When not towing I ran my last set of tires at 55 psi and got 80K out of them.

I run my 10 plies at 50-55 PSI on my BURB to get a somewhat decent ride. At 80 PSI it was like riding in a go kart with no suspension in it. I know that the 1500's suffer pretty badly in the ride department with 10 ply tires.
