after trips to 5 dealers, I finally got the deal I was looking for. I have my deposit down for a 09 FLHX Street Glide. Vivid Black.

I should get it around mid october. I got one more trip left on the Road King before she goes away. Gonna head down to G-burg on the second of october.

Pics to follow as soon as it arrives.

Nice bike Tim. I ride with 2 guys with '08 street glides. One of them has some Black V&H pipes that are the loudest pipes I've ever heard from a HD.
Have fun with it!

Man, I am soooooooooo jealous! I got a serious case of the wants. And dats what I wants! I have Vance and Hines pipes on my wideglide, and they be loud. I wear ear plugs so I can hear when I'm old. But, I love 'em loud. I pulled the baffles out and tossed them in the trash long ago.

Good man! Loud is beautiful.

I dunno. I am really thinking about Reinharts. Or maybe some TRex's

The V&H ovals are some nice sounding pipes, but I have yet to ride with anyone with em, so I only know what they sound like as they pass by.

My buddy has the "black line" of V&H Big Shot Duals Black. It's an '08 pearl black and loud. I'll see if I can get a pic of it. Those are some beautiful sounding and looking pipes IMO.

Congratulations on the order of your new Street Glide Tim.

I am sure you will love it.

I am thinking about Rinehearts for the SE Road Glide when I get it.

Concrats on the new bike Tim, still don't understand why you HD riders like loud pipes....

For me, its not a question of "loud". Just "louder". Harleys have one of the truly great exhast sounds. Just like a inline 6 diesel, a v8 gasser, a Pratt and Whitney Radial, or a 4 cly sport bike. Its a viceral feeling when the exhaust note and the engine vibrations match up.

The stock muffler setup is way to quiet (especially on an FLH bagger) to hear the exhaust note at speed. It also filters out the Basso Profundo rumble that makes it so enjoyable. The Feds mandate noise levels and harley must abide. But the aftermarket guys dont have to, so they offer louder pipes.

Now for a lot of the Pirate-types, having an unmuffled HD is just something you do. Like wearing your vest and chaps into the bar, and having the HD bar-and-sheild logo on every stich of clothing you own. Used to be just the softail guys and poor bastards on sporters, but they are moving up to the FLH's and they think that being an annoying prick is just part of being a "biker"

you know loud pipes alert the other drivers that pay no attention to bikes and kill us. But yes proper riding skills go a long, long way.

I challange that notion. In my world it is 100% the riders resonsibility to ensure his own safety. If you are in a position where an inattentive could cause you harm, YOU have failed, not them.

I see people crying all the time about how some guy was killed when a car "Pulled out in front of them". Horseshit! the words "At least I was right and they were wrong" make a poor epitath. The rider should have never let himself get into a position where a car doing a random stupid act could cause him harm. there is no safety net on a bike. You must ride like everyone else is trying to kill you. If you are willing to bet your life on others doing the proper thing, or not doing stupid things, then you wont make it long.

Loud pipes dont save lives, they just prolong them a little.

I disagree, I do realize that you have to be responsible and drive defensively, but you can not avoid all things that someone else may do. That is like saying its your fault that you got shot by a stray bullet. The only time you can be completly safe is in your garage, and that is debatable. The only time a rider can be held accountable for an inattentive driver is if the rider is pyschic. I have 22 years on two wheels, and have seen my share of stupid 4-wheelers. But there are probably just as many stupid 2- wheelers too. It is just a fact that people that don't ride, don't ever think about those of us on 2 wheels. So, how is that our fault? And no it doesn't matter who was right when you're dead. You're still dead.

I like my loud pipes, but they are never un baffeled. Just louder than stock.

I would never wear my leathers into a bar or a vest....oops I do not even own a vest.

Now most of my non work cloths do have the bar and shield on them.

I am a soft tal guy moving up to a FLTR...

Never thought being a prick was part of being a biker.

I am the guy who short shift late at night or early in the morning.

I pretty much agree with the whole post, but especially the part I made bold.

I do ride like every one else on the road is trying to kill me.

However I have a friend who was killed this spring on a bike. There was nothing he could do. He was stoped at a red light with a pick up in front of him. He was rear ended by a van. From what the police report and news paper said, he saw the van coming was turning right and starting to move off the road, but not quick enough....

Meaning he was stoped and saw the danger, and reacted, but could not get out fast enough....

My point is you can do everything possible, but there is still a slight chance, no matter who safe and careful you are some idiot will tag you...
