03 vent actuators

2003 1500hd w/ digital dual climate.

The vents are stuck on defrost. When I start the truck there is a a loud clicking/thumping under the dash. Where do I start looking?

You nailed it in the title. The clicking/thumping is a stripped actuator would be my bet. Pull the dash to get to it, disconnect it and make sure the lever swings easy before condemning the actuator.

iirc you can pull the glove box and get to one of them, but unless your forearms stopped growing at 10 yrs old, it will be tight.

My wrists dont hardly bend even if I could get my arm in. The one making noise sounds like it is dead center.

All air comes out the defrost, none of the others work except right when I turn start it the dash vents blow. IIRC either floor or dash is normally neutral. So it does move but makes noise.
