the Girl Firend has an 01 durango with the 4.7 and lately when i start it the check gauges light will come one and the oil pressure is at zero. if i shut it off and re-start it, some times more than once, the light goes out and the oil pressure is where is it is supposed to be.

I replaced the OPS with a new Borg-Werner unit and problem is still there. i have read about the "sludge" problems that are common with these motors but i dont think this is the cause it seems to be electrical.

please help this is my Gf daily driver and she is very peranoyed about it

First thing to do is put a mechanical guage on it and see what it actually is. Remember that the dash guage will read 0 if the oil pressure is below about 12 PSI when hot(not sure, but I believe it will read 0 if it is below about 25 cold). The guage in these is just a glorified idiot light per say as it does NOT read actual oil pressure. And I have found anything other than OEM senders don't work worth a crap in them either.

i tried putting a gauge on it the other night but it was cold and i was making a heck of a mess beacouse the ops is in the front right next to the oil filter, great place to get to but as soon as you take it out oil starts to run out. i got it on but i had some leaks in the fittings so i dont thing i got a very good reading, it said 20# at idle and then when i started to rev the engine it started droping. im going to try a gauge again on it tomorow after noon after i cheange the oil, its due for one anyway.
