    Problems with oil pressure switches

That's the drawback of the sealed unit and measuring across a parallel circuit, you're only going to be able to measure the least resistance. Also it troubles me some that I can't verify that there are voltage spikes frying the OPS, it would take an o-scope to see that. Another thing is that...

    Problems with oil pressure switches

Thanks, buddy, for continuing to educate me about relay operation. I guess i always thought a 12v relay was just that, a 12v relay, nothing special, all the same. Now I find that there are differences and they make a difference. I checked the one that I had on the truck and it has a resistor in...

    Problems with oil pressure switches

TD and BJ, The truck is set up currently with the OPS triggering a relay and power to the LP running through the relay. This has not kept the last two pressure switches from failing, even though the load across the OPS contacts is only 0.15A.

    Problems with oil pressure switches

I checked the amperage at the ops(powering the relay) and got 0.15A. That seems low enough not to fry OPS. Then I checked the LP run amperage off of the relay. It read 2.2A initial surge and then settled down to 1.4A. I've continued to research the forums and it appears most replacement pressure...

    Problems with oil pressure switches

I've been thinking back to the first couple of pressure switches that failed and wondering what is common to pre and post relay mod. The first OPS may have been toast when I got the truck. I replaced it and several thousand miles later the new one failed. I have used AC Delco switches each time...

    Problems with oil pressure switches

Yes, I believe it does. What happens if it's hooked up backwards?

    Problems with oil pressure switches

I checked the ground and it is good. The relay reads 84 ohms across the solenoid. The voltage gauge in the instrument panel was showing over 14V, So I thought I might Have found the problem, but......I checked with a meter it shows 14 at idle and 14.2 at 2000 rpm which seems good. So, I am still...

    Problems with oil pressure switches

Assuming that my wiring is ok, what else may be killing the op switches. Heat, vibration, voltage back feeding, bad switches? Is any body else having continued problems after adding the relay? Should I be using a separate 12V source to power the pump through the relay instead of the same source...

    Problems with oil pressure switches

The LP stops working. I went and rechecked my wiring to the relay. I spliced into the orange(12V) wire going the OPS, this 12V goes to terminal 30 of relay. I cut the wire going from the OPS to the LP and the jumpers are now routed this way: OPS connector to terminal 86(solenoid power)...

    Problems with oil pressure switches

I know this topic has been covered a lot, and I thought I had fixed the problem when I installed the relay to take the load for the lift pump. Unfortunately, the second AC Delco OPS has just gone out in last 4k miles(since the relay). I have checked the wiring that I installed against the...

    Replaced injector nozzles then problems

Thanks for the input. I incorrectly wrote "passenger side" in an earlier post. The broken spring is on the driver's side. Now I have to get a new spring and then find some time.

    Replaced injector nozzles then problems

I was able to get to work on the truck this evening. Pulled the driver's side valve cover to see what I could find. Found broken exhaust valve spring on the #5 cylinder. It could be a lot worse and I hope that is the only problem. I'm still not sure why it would have occured with the nozzle...

    Replaced injector nozzles then problems

I did use the gauge on another cylinder and the needle swung past 250 on each compression stroke.

    Replaced injector nozzles then problems

I swapped injectors with the front cylinder, the problem did not follow the injector. I also hooked up the injector to the line outside the head, and cranked the engine. Injector gave a good puff at each cycle. Then I decided to check the compression with my conventional compression tester...

    Replaced injector nozzles then problems

The truck was running fine before rebuilding the injectors. It was starting a little slower and lukewarm starts(too warm for glow plugs but too cool too start without extended cranking). Even with a bad cylinder, it is starting faster. By the way, I changed all the glow plugs to Bosch...

    Replaced injector nozzles then problems

Well, I decided to keep checking the truck out. I was incorrect in my first post, there is NO oil in the coolant. The darkness might be some soot and that settled out after a couple of hours. I pulled the injector to test it and it pops good. Put the injector back in and then started up...

    Replaced injector nozzles then problems

An update to the above post. Pulled the glow plugs on the passenger side, the third cylinder back is wet. others are dry with some soot. I'll check the other side make sure I dont have a problem over there as well. At least it may be only on the "easy" side. I suppose I'll need to pull the...

    Replaced injector nozzles then problems

Just finished changing out the injector nozzles, started up fine, let it idle for a while while I took stuff out of the bed, then took it for a test drive. Was running good initially. Then I did a medium acceleration run with it(3000 rpm), ok at first, then saw blue smoke after shift to 3rd...

    Replacement turbo

Turbine Doc, What kind of file is that? I've tried to open it and just get some funky stuff. Thanks. Andrew
