commanded gear indicator for 4L80E w/ standalone TCM

I saw some stuff about tuner pro when I was searching, but missed that it's open source. That's cool! And here's the info for the shift solenoid setup in case anyone finds it useful

commanded gear indicator for 4L80E w/ standalone TCM

Thanks, it's good to know I'm dealing with OBD1. Yeah, it's a GM TCM. I can get software for a microcontroller to read OBD2, but I might have to start from scratch for OBD1. If I go the shift solenoid route, I'm planning on using opto couplers on the inputs to completely isolate the TCM...

commanded gear indicator for 4L80E w/ standalone TCM

I'd like to make a commanded gear indicator for a truck without a standard ECM/PCM. It's a 6.5 Diesel with a DB2/4L80E, and a standalone TCM. Thanks to this post - https://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/threads/4l80e-shift-indicator-lights.34643/ I think I could rig something up by tapping the...

"NOTICE" P400 motors are no more!!

Just so I'm crystal clear, this interchange would work both ways, right? Not that you'd want to, but if somewhere way down the road you had no other choice, the regular 6.x rods/pistons would work in the p400 as long as you used a whole set for proper balance? That said, how much better are...

    Newest hmmwv- NXT 360

If it comes down to a manifold/header/exhaust change, I probably wont' have the budget for it for quite a while yet. That's why I'm hoping (although not holding my breath) that they're using a new center mount turbo that's a near bolt-in swap for the gm6/7. And if that were the case, it should...

Damn, why not? It'll be off highway use I swear. ;) If they have a company like Mahle produce them, perhaps we could go straight through the manufacturer?

Still more curious about the turbo they're running - it may be the hvlp "Hummer Kit" we've been waiting for.

My sincerest thanks for putting it all on the line so the rest of us can do cool stuff like talk about the idiosyncrasies of cooling systems without fearing for our lives, livelihoods or freedoms. Mine's a Hummer - I considered a Humvee because I liked the waterproof electrical system and...

Great info, thanks! This part caught me by surprise: It makes me wonder, if the upper grille could be closed off at speed, with a Venetian blind type of setup rather than fixed grille bars, would it make a noticeable difference? It also seems most scoops, unless the back end were horribly...

I know you've done a lot of work with hood scoops on these trucks, what are your thoughts on the one they're using here?

Base timing and TDC offset not lining up

Success! For anyone down the road that has the same questions I had, here's how it went. Started with TDC Offset at -1.58 as a result of using Time Set to set base timing to 3.5*. I wanted the offset at -0.75. Did some quick math, which wasn't precise because I don't know how approximate the...

Base timing and TDC offset not lining up

Thanks guys, the fan clutch is older than 5 years, so it'll be sooner rather than later that I get in touch with Kennedy Diesel. That Humvee rebuildable is sounding better and better all the time.

Base timing and TDC offset not lining up

Hiya Will, yeah I'm on the hummernetwork forum, different name there (habit from my computer industry days). I've read lots of your posts there - great info! But I wish I read more of them before the stack went back in, my upgrade order would have been a bit different. The good news on the...

Base timing and TDC offset not lining up

I think I get it. My concern with running the -1.50 offset is that the truck would run hotter, and the Hummer cooling system has some issues. I may well go back to -1.50 after the truck has a few thousand miles under its belt and it shows it can keep its cool, but I want a good baseline to tune...

Base timing and TDC offset not lining up

I may have this all backward, which would be cool as I like the "turn it 'til you get what you want" solution. Doing that would set my base timing below 3.5*, and posts like this one made me think a minimum of 3.5* was set in stone...

Base timing and TDC offset not lining up

Hi, I've been bashing my head against the wall on this and getting nowhere. The truck is a 99 Hummer, it's OBD2, new P400, new DS4 IP, the ECM has a Heath tune, and I'm using an AutoEnginuity scan tool. I used Time Set to get the base timing set to 3.5*. I read somewhere that on OBD2...
